But his stamina is the worst i've seen. Maybe that extra played a part ? One thing is for sure if he wants to carry on boxing he needs to work on that stamina asap. He took a few flush shots and didn't even really blink.
Price now needs to face someone like David Allen or Gary Cornish ? Start from the bottom again and this time sort the stamina issue out.
He was winning every round and even knocked hammer down with a nice uppercut. Price isn't done yet. I think he will be happy that hammer didn't knock him out, that sounds strange but yeah it's true. His stamina let him down last night not his chin.
If he fights on then Cornish is the way to go. Alien might be too dangerous, due to his chin and stamina.
Gutted to see your man lose. Looked better in some areas but stamina and nervous energy played a part.
Feel sorry for him. Wanted him to win so bad but it was that stamina. You're right he won 5 of 6 rounds including that one that Hammer battered him in but then Pricey dropped him. It was good that he was happy to trade with Hammer, shows he's a lot braver. Terrifying watching him as a fan because he was swinging from the hips a bit because he was tired and you don't want him to get caught. But he would almost definitely have stopped Hammer down the stretch had he not burnt out. One thing I would say is that he still wasn't using his tools to his advantage properly at times he was trading at short to mid range when he should have just got behind the jab and threw the right hand. I certainly wouldn't mind seeing him campaign at British level in the fights you've said. Surely a better way of life for him than working 9-5 every day and would probably make more money. But it's just up to him whether he would want to fight at that level now.
I suspect he will retire after that. If he can't be bothered to train properly for a fight which would have projected him back onto the world scene, why would he bother for a few domestic dust ups way down on undercards? Part of me does feel sorry for him, as he cannot be that unfit - I just think he burns off a lot of nervous energy on fight night but that said, there are so many fundamentals he still has not addressed. He needs breathers - who wouldn't at 6'9'' and 270+ llbs - but has no idea how to take them. Walking back to the ropes and standing there is not a wise way of taking a round off. He clinches - A LOT - and the way he does it is so draining (leaning in and grappling but not tying up) that it tires him more than the opponent. And he STILL does that amateur bouncing up and down on the balls of his feet while re-setting. I can only imagine how exhausting it must be to do this at his size and weight, but he just cannot stop. Problem is, we all have our own VO2 max ceiling and Price's is not one of a professional athlete - but surely he can do more to condition himself better? How much does he really want it? Not enough I would say. Hammer knew all he had to do was get through the first few rounds and Price would gas badly. And any future opponent will know this even better now. Sad to say, but he's finished unless he wants to be a euro level gatekeeper or be prepared to take 50/50 fights against the likes of Allen and risk losing what's left of his credibility...
Listen, David Price is a total joke and needs to retire now for his family's sake. He won't ever get a big purse again and fights at British level with Allen, Cornish, Sexton etc are not worthwhile. To put it into perspective Price just went life and death with a guy who barely landed on Tyson Fury and who was totally outclassed by the Gypsy King. The gulf in class is just ridiculous here. If Price had won yesterday he might well have earned that final big purse against a champion (even though it wouldn't have been deserved IMO). Now he will never get it. I'm not even being funny here but he really should start a plumbing business. I'm sure he can muster a hell of a lot of business by using his name with his fans. It's a safer, more sensible occupation for this guy now who is simply not an athlete.
He and Caldwell F'd up......simple. 1) this was Prices last chance to get into big fights. 2) if your a professional boxer or any boxer actually you always get your fitness right especially over 12 rounds!! You train for 12 rounds unless you don't want to win. It was a title fight too! 3) your trainer has to know you inside out to have a chance. A trainer has to make sure he knows his fighter is ready to go the distance. Especially once again for a title fight. Price should retire.
As a merseysider im gutted about last night's result but I dont necessarily think it's game over for him. But it certainly is back to square one. He showed glimmers of ability and I think he is capable of more sucess in his career, even if the top end of the division is out of his reach. Its nice to see some constructive posts on David Price. Some of the mean spirited posts on other threads kicking Price when he is down are disgusting imo.
I agree on the whole but it's not like Price and his good pal Bellew are full of respect is it? Banging on about knocking down a young novice AJ made him look like a total bellend IMO.
