David Haye's entire career has been smoke and mirrors

David Haye’s entire career has been smoke and mirrors

Firstly, the audacity by Haye to make fun of Price on twitter, which was only slightly less embarrassing than when Haye fought a Whetherspoon’s bouncer straight after ‘Men Behaving Badly’ on Dave.

At least Price fought a ranked opponent which is something Haye hasn’t done since 2012 lol!

So for all those people who don’t know, Haye is broke, on the verge of being declared bankrupt. He made big losses on his promotional company and bad property investment in the Middle East. He was recently arrested in Dubai when his credit cards were declined (an illegal offence there) and also had to sell his London gym including selling items from the gym on eBay to pay creditors. He’s also recently received what we in the UK call a “Ray Parlour”, where he has had to give half of his assets and future earnings to his now divorced wife who left him after numerous accounts of Haye’s adultery became public knowledge. What a stand-up guy.

This is the sole reason why Haye has decided to enter the boxing circuit again. It’s not for love, or for legacy. It’s purely financial driven. Which also happens to be the reason he has only called out AJ and no one else. Surely a person coming back for the glory would be fighting top ranked fighters forcing him in a position to take the belts away from the champions. There’s been no mention of Wilder, Ortiz, Parker, Pulev. Instead he just incessantly calls out Joshua at every opportunity and won’t even take a half-dangerous fight in the meantime in case he scuppers his big chance of a payday.

Now let’s talk about Haye’s boxing career.

He was dropped by SMW Lolenga Mock, beat-up and embarrassed by Carl Thompson whom he never decided to avenge or rematch, most likely because he would have lost again. I give him credit in going abroad to win the title from Mormeck which is also the best win in his career, but he was down in that fight also and seconds away from losing. He then unified the titles in a big domestic clash vs one of the most Glass Jawed fighters in boxing history and that was that. Overall I can’t criticise his Cruiserweight career as he did what needed to be done. Heavyweight is a different story.

He was dropped by a glancing blow in the Monte Barrett fight and then fought for a paper title vs Valulev, who won the strap in one of the most blatant robberies I’ve ever seen in my life. I gave Holyfield almost every round in that fight and it was a typical hometown decision for the Eastern fighter. Almost a blessing in disguise you might say as I have NO DOUBT that Haye would have tried to challenge an ancient Holyfield for this belt otherwise and called himself the champion after it because Haye has absolutely no shame what so ever and gladly misleads the public at every opportunity including his own fans.

Haye then defends the belt again old and shot John Ruiz, fleeces the public once more in a “PPV” fight vs Fraudley, another Glass Jawed joke before losing every second of every round to a vastly superior fighter in Wladimir Klitschko. This is one of the worst performances I’ve ever seen of a British fighter in a big fight, especially after months of Haye’s trash talk in the lead-up to the fight proving once again that Haye is all talk and absolutely no action. Haye then gets the best win of his HW career over an old and shot Chisora who already lost twice to Fury.

Then we see Haye duck out of not one but two fights vs Fury, no doubt as a result of getting completely embarrassed and shown-up at the press conference by the much better talker and fighter Fury. It’s too bad that this fight never came off really as I’m sure that would have been the last we would have ever heard of Haye.

Since Haye’s “comeback”, he’s been totally eclipsed by both Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua and now his career pales in comparison to both. Not just on what they have done historically but also by what they will achieve in the future. Haye is hanging on for this one big fight, this one last opportunity to con some more money out of his already greatly misled fans.

Haye will be remembered for being a con-artist, a fraud, a pretender, someone who runs in every fight to protect his fragile jaw. I don’t think Bellew is the guy to do it, but the sooner someone steps up and puts this disgrace of a boxer to sleep the better.

I finally had it with Haye when he pulled out of fighting Tyson Fury the second time with a fake injury.

This was about the 4th time he illegimately pulled out of fights he had already signed to fight on a whim.

For me that is beneath contempt. To both your opponent and the boxing public.

His comeback has indeed been a complete joke- he literally chose the poorest possible divers he could find.

He treats his own fans with complete disdain, it's no surprise that he has absolutely no friends left in the boxing world. Although I did hear that him and Khan are quite pally which would explain a lot.

Whether you like it or not De Mori was ranked top 10 when Haye beat him.

But far be it for something like facts get in the way of a little Haye hating. :icon_popcorn:

Ranked in the top 10 by an organisation, but not ranked in the top 10 heavyweights. Unless you think De Mori was ranked ahead of people like Parker, Pulev etc...who are genuine top 10 heavyweights.

    Next.

    You being serious bro.

Who did dive boy beat to be a top 10 ranked HW?

    Was it 24-14 Keller?
    Was it 2-5 Kovac?
    Was it 4-3 Bovic?

Seriously dude, seriously come on. Do not defend this.

De Mori was the better out of the two in the ring though. The other one took a dive to the floor, without a punch even landing.

The way they manipulated his career was very clever.
After moving up from Cruiser they basically took the least line of resistance to win a belt and after talking the talk he wouldn't put it all on the line in the big one against Wlad he turned up basically for the huge payday.
Wlad apart he's carefully picked his opponents and never really been under any threat.
The frustrating thing is he's probably the most explosive punching heavyweight out there, and is probably a threat to anybody.

The question is what will people think of him if he beats Bellew, AJ, Wilder and Fury then retires?

Hypothetical of course but what if?

The last time he was in with someone the level of AJ/Wilder/Fury he lost every second of every round, and that was in his prime. How is he going to pull off 3 career best wins 5 years after his last good win and coming off major shoulder surgery.

If he is to do anything in the HW division now he will have to be significantly better than he was in his prime, but that's besides the point as he isn't even aiming to do anything better - just looking for a payday vs AJ, nothing else.

After the opening sentence I'd say this is fair criticism. The OP is blinded by hate though.

Funny how Haye manages to incite such strong feelings in people. He's an underachiever IMO but people carry on like he's the worst boxer and in some other attacks person to ever live which I just don't get.

See this shows how deep your hate goes in the few rounds against Wlad he actually threw any punches he actually won them quite convincingly. This was nowhere near enough and not a defence of Haye but just pointing out how biased you are against him at this point.

I admire how Haye made his money in his pro career once he was established, minimizing the risks to his health, maximimizing the value of his fights, getting out there and self-prmoting with clear goals in mind. He sold himself marvellously as a rival to Wladimir when most the heavyweight contenders were unknown to general public. And he picked up some world titles too, at cruiserweight he was actually credible. It would have been better if he'd retired at 30 like he said he would because now he's just going down the stereotypical route of an ageing boxer continuing in a series of increasingly irrelevant comebacks.

It baffles me why people who seem to know a good deal about boxing still fail to see how empty Haye's heavyweight credentials actually are/were, and how many of these people still insist Haye is a HW contender and even a stand-out talent of his era.
I guess it boils down to pure faith in Haye, buying into the whole David Haye thing, which itself probably stems from Haye's salesman's confidence.

I've got no hate against Haye just frustration.
He's a very good fighter and with his hand speed and ability to put devastating combinations together he should be regarded as the most exciting heavyweight on the planet.
