Coldwell shouldn't say anything if that's all his got to say. His getting defensive and his chucking price under a bus. Coldwell as head Trainer should be aware of price's strength and conditioning and if he wasn't he wasn't doing his job properly. It's ridiculous to think he would have no say on that. He should be aware of price's diet and his conditioning training even if wasn't the main guy.
I'm not sure where Price goes from here. If he hasn't been able to solve his issues with his gas tank by now I don't think he is either willing or able to. It is not like they haven't been a problem before.. To me it seemed that getting hit just take too much out of him, sort of like his brain is getting scrambled every time it take a shot and eventually it just shuts down and it looks like he has gassed out.. Bottom line is he is not a top level fighter and need to accept that and decide if he is willing to make a career as a British level/journey man fighter...
Thing is Dave Allen is a British level fighter and I would pick him to beat pricey every time. The level of opponent price can beat just isn't worth the money.
aye, didn't think he was *that* bad at the start, looked goosed just before the knock down but just doesn't have the mentality. It's not exactly news, but still should be keeping that in house, anyone giving coldwell stick for something that has been a problem with price for at least 4 years now need a slap
i guess price could probably make decent 4 figures smashing out scrubs low down on an undercard but that's probably beneath him? Makes Tyson furys ducking of him look even more bad in hindsight. Then again price was seen as someone who could be a world champion a couple of years ago, if he was seen as someone like a Dave Allen would we be calling him to retire?
It's not a good look for Coldwell. Whether he likes it or not his rep has taken a big hit here - his fighter wasn't in shape and that's partly on him as it was a known problem before he came in and he should of got someone in to address it if he couldn't sort it out himself. Price also had no idea how to effectively tie his opponent up and his attempts at taking a rest in rounds and defending himself were laughable. I saw no improvements made. I didn't even see a double jab or any attempt to manage distance. Then there was the corner work. Well... I'm sure you you heard what he was saying for yourself. Now he's damaging his rep further by publicly throwing Price under the bus. Who'd want to work with a trainer who does that? You want someone who has your back right or wrong and he's not that guy.
Agreed. Coldwell's leadership abilities shown wanting before the fight, during the fight and now after the fight. If you haven't got the mustard to be the lead trainer and actually lead your fighter then you have no business being there in the first place.
Fair play Price Is Back for coming on and taking it on the chin, we all make wrong predictions and some are way wide if the mark, that's part of coming on this site, coming on after you make a bold prediction that goes belly up and suffering the stick. I actually watched the fight again, just sat there, headphones on and watched it from start to finish without the interruption of text messages, the rbr thread and most importantly without my alcohol fuelled wife banging on and on and on and on.... and on and on and on and on, she loves boxing but when boxing is on it's like living with a drunk female version of Jim Watt. Anyway, I can't agree with you on Price improving, I just didn't see it, we have to take in to account how out of shape Hammer was, you only had to look at him to see the last time he did a sit up Ricky Hatton was slim. Sure Price took some half decent shots and didn't crumble but his stamina is ridiculously poor, his mouth was open after a couple of rounds and he looked done a round or two after that, he still went backwards in straight lines as soon as Hammer threw a shot or came forward, he tried to hold but a man of his size should completely clamp down and shut down a man of Hammers size and not allow him to get shots off inside/up close but Hammer was still swinging right hands over the top up close when being held. The knockdown was a decent shot but watch it again, Hammer was starting to get on top, Price looked jelly legged and was under pressure and Hammer got very lazy and left himself wide open and got caught but he got up, Price by that time had obviously lost most of his power and strength and couldn't finished the job. This wasn't a surprise, he had two of these of performances against Thompson, was knocked out by Teper with what didn't look a very hard shot. Price is 33 years old, he isn't a baby, he isn't a work in progress, this is what he is. Price believes he is above domestic level, I don't think he is, let's be honest would you bet your hard earned money on Price beating Chisora, Whyte, Allen after last night? I wouldn't. I don't think Price has anywhere to go now, we've seen him come back and beat up security guards but the minute he steps up he gets beaten up. He is never getting an AJ fight now, it's not happening so he has a choice, he can do what Audley did and take fights for money and be the "opponent" and end up a "name" on some young heavyweights resume or retire, personally I hope he retires because the way he completely gasses and looks defenceless he could get seriously hurt and nobody wants to see that.
None of us who have seen Price and noted his weight lately are surprised his fitness was lacking. You don't have to be Sherlock Holmes. "I feel better with the extra weight" has become a cliche for a heavyweight in denial. The trainer is a joke. Of course, most of us suspected he'd lose to Hammer whatever his conditioning was like, and for sure his problems go way beyond poor physical conditioning. The trainer would sound better if he owned up and said "I figured we'd get Hammer knocked out early." It still sounds bad, but better than saying "I didn't notice my guy was a fat piece of lard." which is effectively what he said.
As has been mentioned by other posters Hammer wasn't exactly Mr olympia. He looked like a guy who didn't train much as he didnt believe he had to and still looked the fresher fighter. Why price with his size doesn't use that when close against smaller guys I don't know. He should lean on them zapping there energy.
I've seen countless IFL interviews of Coldwell saying how much he has improved Price. He didn't mention any other coaches then.
Price's problems are mostly mental. But there's probably no remedy. Most of us just aren't cut out to be real fighters. Price is one of those freaks who is physically massive with enough coordination and dedication to have actually made it to the Olympic games boxing tournament and go 15-0 in the pros while lacking a true fighter's mentality. Hence why he was talking pre-fight in terms of "no more nice guy", "no more playing around" because he was trying to tell himself this fighting thing means more to him than it actually does. Like winning the fight is as important as life itself and nothing will get in his way. But when things get tough in there, truth isn't like that. That's a certain type of mentality you can't really fake.
