We know it does because his KO record dropped off rapidly. The point remains that Rocky showed caution which gives us the only indication we have as to how he'd fight a modern HW with a significant weight advantage.
I have to say as a neutral observer i do not think that right hand worried Marciano much at all. He was switched on enough to comfortably duck the follow up left hook and unleash a booming right hand of his own.
As always avoiding the real issue and making dumb statements. Lets get back to Marciano - Louis and what your political statement meant by showing an unflattering pic of Louis had to do with this thread? A simple yes or no or whatever you might want to say, have you now seen the combo, especially the right? Please tell me what my posts have to do with his? I dont know him, I love the way you snipe at each other. I would never, ever look to ban you, not my way. We are men here and should act accordingly. You already are as a greater reader of articles, boxrec, and books but forgot the boxing part.
I guess hard enough, cos I explained in detail a few times and will do so again the statements I am responding to are in BOLD. My replies are not, now really how hard can that be?
I made no statement about Louis with that photo you looked for some underlying motive/agenda that wasn't there. I couldn't give a monkeys f*ck whether you believe me about it . Just as I couldn't give a sh*t about your opinion I have two photos of Louis hanging in my hall one shows a young Joe skipping the other the old louis on the ropes being bombarded by Marciano. Other than as contrast they have no agenda at all. You remember the question you ducked about Louis's power punch being his right cross. Here's a statue of it in Detroit. You will note it is the right hand . This content is protected "None of us wanted him to fight Marciano .We begged him to retire . truthfully he was over the hill that's why he held out for the kind of deal he got."Marshall Miles.Louis's Manager. Al Weill manager of Marciano."My boy knocked out the great Joe Louis". John Roxborough former long term manager of Louis."Al, your boy didn't knock out the great Joe Louis,he beat Joe Louis' shadow" Yeah you've seen a few clips on You Tube, and I've been collecting fights for 50 years. I have an opinion of the come-backing Joe Louis, an opinion that is shared by : Peter Wilson Jimmy Cannon Red Smith Lester Bromberg WC Heinz Grantland Rice Paul Gallico A J Leibling Randy Roberts Jack Hand Manny Seamon And about another 20 top sports writers who visited Louis' training camps and actually watched those fights live from ringside. But what do they know compared to you ? You've watched You Tube! These men did this for a living, made long careers out of it witnessed these fights as they actually happened from close up and personal! How many fights have you actually seen from ringside? How many actual fights have you seen in the flesh? Not sitting on a sofa watching a TV screen, in the flesh close up! Oh my word!
mcvey I made no statement about Louis with that photo you looked for some underlying motive/agenda that wasn't there. Ok, so out of thousands and thousands of pic's that was the one readily available yeah, that sounds reasonable........not! I couldn't give a monkeys f*ck whether you believe me about it . Just as I couldn't give a sh*t about your opinion Then please tell why are you answering my posts? I have two photos of Louis hanging in my hall one shows a young Joe skipping the other the old louis on the ropes being bombarded by Marciano. That's great and where is that pic that pic you posted hanging? Other than as contrast they have no agenda at all. What contrast, contrast to what??? You remember the question you ducked about Louis's power punch being his right cross. Here's a statue of it in Detroit. You will note it is the right hand . OMG still reaching, where is his left hand? I didnt duck anything, there has been many clips posted which show comebacking Louis using his right hand effectively but you refuse to acknowledge those. John Roxborough former long term manager of Louis."Al, your boy didn't knock out the great Joe Louis,he beat Joe Louis' shadow" Let me ask you mister all knowing, was Louis the betting favorite? All those kind people were saying this and he needed money why didnt they help him out instead of letting the "betting favorite" fight they were so worried. Why didnt these same people advise him of his tax situation. Cherry picking at it's best. Yeah you've seen a few clips on You Tube, and I've been collecting fights for 50 years. I would say just about all you have collected is readily available on youtube and other sources, so tell me what that means that you have collected films for 50yrs. It must grind your huevos to know anybody can go on youtube and see just about every vid, super8, dvd that you have collected. I have an opinion of the come-backing Joe Louis, an opinion that is shared by : Peter Wilson Jimmy Cannon Red Smith Lester Bromberg WC Heinz Grantland Rice Paul Gallico A J Leibling Randy Roberts Jack Hand Manny Seamon Please as you have asked others we need proof, please post so that I can make sense of them, cant take your word, an example would be your explanation of the Louis pic you posted. What is your opinion, that he basically fought one handed, that he had no power, that he didnt throw any right crosses, that he was old Louis not the Louis of old? People have posted clips which you refuse to acknowledge that show, that what you are saying is not as you and your friends the scribes seem to be saying, whats the joke about who you gonna believe me or your lying eyes? All of those scribes and trainer had this in mind and didnt influence the betters that made Louis the favorite, didnt influence the fan's who paid 250k, in 1950 dollars, didnt influence those who ranked Louis so highly that made this fight possible. Another point Louis himself wasnt whining and crying that he was old, and wasnt the Louis of old, he stood up and fought as the proud man he was. A simple question if the match was so bad where was the outrage and big headline's proclaiming the mismatch of the century? Why was Louis allowed to fight, if all those scribes were against the fight. It seems to me Louis earned his shot, by fighting and beating guys that were ranked, at the time. The man earned his way back in, give louis credit, he didnt just jump in and demand his due, he fought his way back. And about another 20 top sports writers who visited Louis' training camps and actually watched those fights live from ringside. But what do they know compared to you ? You've watched You Tube! I wasnt at ringside, but nowadays we have the benefit of modern technology, rewinds, stop motion, slo mo and can actually catch things that even people sitting at ringside didnt see in the heat of the moment. If you look at the audience they reacted to those 3 sec's but you who wasnt there say it didnt happen. These men did this for a living, made long careers out of it witnessed these fights as they actually happened from close up and personal! Really what does that mean? That they knew better then anybody, about what? Louis was ranked he beat guys that were ranked to get that shot against Rocky. All these guys and you my fine feathered friend that were pointing out that Louis was basically shot were doing what exactly? Pointing out that this wasnt the Louis of old lol. It was obvious this wasnt prime Louis, is that the smoking gun. Since you and the scribes were such experts, what were some of these same pundits say about Marciano? His ability, his cherry picked opponents, JJW thought so little of Marciano's ability. Please understand these scribes are not always right and you should know that, but cherry pickers like yourself cant see the forest for the tree's. Bottomline, Louis was on a comeback, Louis fought a few ranked guys to earn his shot, got the shot and went down fighting. Everything else is a pile of bull turds. Address the fight, and the fighters, not what somebody said see the fight for yourself, and make up your own mind. How can you have an opinion and understanding of the fight when you refuse to see Louis landing a very good combination. Tells me you rely too much on articles instead of your own eyes. As you so proudly pointed out, "duh Rocky only mentioned the jab!" How many fights have you actually seen from ringside? How many have you? And your point is? FYI most boxing fans have had the benefit of viewing thousands of fights and in facts the average boxing fan of today has probably seen and has access to many more fights than the average scribe of yesteryear, and a much better view. They can also rewind, slo mo, single out specific punches, to you that counts for nothing, right? Please. How many actual fights have you seen in the flesh? Not sitting on a sofa watching a TV screen, in the flesh close up! Oh my word! As I said before, if you only knew lol
http://streamable.com/um9k6 Look how Rockys body reacts to the punches. They force his body to turn significantly against his will. Also, notice how Louis doesn't sacrifice his balance or stance to throw those punches. It's the sign of being hit by a big puncher imo. It's like when Brook got hit in round 1 by GGG http://streamable.com/3znaa Arm punchers, soft punchers, and even good punchers don't force opponents around like that. Only really good punchers do. The really impressive part is Rocky recovering in a snap, and returning a huge overhand that buckles Louis even worse. http://streamable.com/3zkqp Rocky had sick power. He would be very competitive against a Klitschko despite the size difference.
That clip shows Louis landed two beauties there, a little similar to the shots that finished Walcott. The difference is Marciano was an animal that evening and had a great chin.
Rez, dont waste your time the persons in question, is Rocky's guard and the way he fought took away Louis' right. Louis in order to tag Marciano with right cross would have to reach and that would leave him vulnerable to Rocky's counter. Look at Rocky's guard, try to copy it, imagine a right cross being thrown at you. Rocky had his own shoulder roll going, it's very effective taught to him by the great Charley Goldman. Watch Rocky's left shoulder and crouch. Here is a vid I found on YT, illustrating a should roll from a crouch, it was a good defense against a right cross. Now before the nitpicking blind mice, say it isnt the same watch the clip. see how effective it is against the right cross, a guy who practiced for 20 yrs should know this, but I guess he doesnt and he still is singing the same old song, about articles when all he had to do was open his eyes to see the reason why old Joe didnt throw any right crosses at Rocky This content is protected
DI'd it ever occur to the Marcianistas, so desperate to write an all encompassing counter narrative on the basis of two punches, that their desired interpretation could be turned on its pointy little head. If you want to extrapolate the universe from two punches, the story might not be that Louis had retained all his skill and ability from youth but that Marciano was so easy to read and so slow to react that even an old depleted codger could land on him. Just sayin'.
Not if you choose to believe those who had watched him since the beginning of his career and who happened to agree unanimously otherwise. But maybe you know more. Jus sayin'
