Norton beat Tex Cobb before fighting Cooney. Lyle didn't fight George Chaplin, Cooney did. (I don't know where you got that.) Cooney was 6'6". I don't know where this "Tua had a better chin" argument came from (Christ). I said Cooney hit as hard as Tua.

And please do block me because I've embarrassed you by showing the world you can't grasp basic reading comprehension.

Moorer brings nothing to the table to beat Cooney. Moorer didn't have the movement, the chin, the workrate, and frankly he didn't have the power (19 kos in 35 heavyweight fights) to beat Cooney.

If Vaughn Bean and Melvin Foster and Robert Davis can go the distance with Moorer, I don't think Cooney had anything to sweat.

    Cooney early.

Spinks knocked out better light heavyweights AND heavyweights. Hell, Cooney ONLY got stopped by Hall of Famers. Which you don't seem to be able to grasp.

Who was the best light heavy Moorer stopped and who was the best heavyweight Moorer stopped (because there aren't too many guys with iron chins at heavy that he stopped)?

I'm sure it would be easy to find someone with a better chin in both divisions who Spinks stopped.

If Cooney shows up at his very best I'd give him a decent chance of getting to Moorer and taking him out. It may only take one good flurry of lefts from Cooney to put Moorer's lights out. But Moorer in my eyes is the better boxer of the two and had much better tangibles in the ring. I think he had enough power to hurt Cooney as well. Wouldn't surprise me to see Moorer on the canvas early, if he survives, I'd look for him to mount and comeback and maybe even have Cooney out or the canvas sometime in the fight.

Overall I'd have to put my money on Moorer.

If Cooney put you down early ... that's when it ended.

For Moorer to win, he needed to move A LOT. And he just didn't fight that way.

Moorer was a stationary fighter with awful defense. A hell of a puncher at any weight but his inability to get his head out of the way of his opponent's punches will be his undoing against most guys that can crack. Even then he made old Holyfield look like a killer, as he ate combination after combination.

Cooney was a better fighter then he's given credit for. He had the misfortune of coming along at the time a top ten ATG was around.. And like a lot of fighters, couldn't get past his 1st pro lost. He became depressed and became a drug user and alcoholic, by the time he got on the right track, his time had passed. Moorer isn't close to being the fighter L.Holmes was in his prime. The way I see it is the 1st time Cooney lands that big left hook cleanly, it would be goodnight M.Moorer. Probably within the 1st 6 or 7 rds.

A very plausible outcome. One of the questions that commonly rises is how Cooney might have done against a prime Berbick, Weaver, Coetzee or Dokes. How well does Michael Moorer compare to guys like that do you think ?

A true clash of violence. MM was known in his youth as boxing most angriest man and
KO magazine described him as boxing most violent man and he said in the same interview
he craved violence. When he trained at Kronk he hanged out alot with fellow stablemate Gerald
McCellan. When training at Kronk gym for obvious reasons he was prohibited from sparring with
    Thomas Hearns.
Never saw the best of Gerry. GC said " When i knocked out Kenny Norton that night i could
have beaten anybody in the world. But that was the night my career ended because i
started messing with drugs and drinking and staying out all night. I lost my focus ".
GC was similar to Gerrie Coetzee in that he was very sensitive outside the ring and
lacked confidence. If GC had not taken the Holmes option and guided properly he could
    have been champ .
GC fought MM he obliverates Moorer early. MM could be hurt early when GC hurts MM then
his killer instinct would kick in and there is no escaping.

    Moorer is the better boxer.

    Cooney is much more powerful.

If Moorer can handle Gerry's power, then he should win. Otherwise, he gets knocked out.

I think that this is close enough to say that if one of them is particularly on form or has a bad night, the end result could be decided by that.

Well he'd hardly have stoppage losses to top contenders on his record - he didn't fight any. Moorer is way better than anyone Cooeny actually beat which makes it quite an intriguing match both ways.

Find off I liked cooney. There was something about the guy that I wanted him to win the big ones. I was rooting for him against spinks, and was so frustrated in that fight. It was if he was sleepwalking through parts of it. But I believe moorer would pull this off... But only if he keeps a clear head and keeps it tight. I believe he could box his way through this till the late rounds then go in for the kill. But as I stated if Mike tried to go head to head, toe to toe with cooney early on he would be serious hurt. The best way to beat cooney is take him to the late rounds tire him out , make him use up all that energy. Like a lot of big punchers the longer the fight goes on the less effective. I believe despite the shaky chin mike can win this but as to keep the jab going early, try to keep cooney honest, then he'll win

Moorer by late stoppage. I think he'd probably get dropped along the way.
