Yikes, Savon won that IMO but it was razor close. I hate it when people say AJ lost but it was my first time watching it. Savon didn't do enough though to make a case for 'robbery'.
Yeah, I thought Joshua lost that one too. Camarelle was a dedicated Olympic boxer with no intention of turning professional so it was kind of sad he was denied his chance to collect his second Olympic gold. It was a closer fight than the Joshua-Savon one though.
I guess the agenda would be to inform people that AJ is in fact lucky to be able to call himself an Olympic medalist, nevermind gold. He got a lucky break there. That's just the truth.
It is, and it got called upon during the Olympics, because there were so many obvious ones in favor for every UK boxer at the time. It was too blatant. At the time almost nobody outside the UK even knew who Joshua was, but they still called upon it. It wasn't just boxing though. I remember very blatant gifted gold medals in other jury sports, like equestrian.
Exactly. It's not as if people are digging up something obscure just to have a go at Joshua. In fact, I think the Joshua-Savon fight was the first time I ever saw AJ fight. I'd heard he'd won silver at the world championships but I hadn't seen that. So, straight away my first impression of him is a guy who was lucky to get into the quarter finals. Of course, he's not the first or the last boxing gold medallist to have been gifted a win or two. And, yes, the 2012 London Olympics were an embarrassment for our country that pretends to pride itself on a traditional of fair-play. For whatever reason, judges from all nations were doing their best to be generous to the Brit compeititors.
