Don King had options on Douglas.
But he pissed Douglas and his team off when he tried to have the result of the Tyson fight overturned. Douglas sued him. King counter-sued, etc., etc. It went on for a few months.

Don King step away from the Douglas-Holyfield promotion but was paid a few million dollars.
Donald Trump ended up with a couple of mill too. Not sure why.

The million dollar question is would Douglas have made the effort to get in shape for a rematch with Tyson, I believe he would have to the best of his ability.

Unfortunately after paying taxes, his team, his payout to Don King (as a result of the lawsuit) and legal bills, Buster only cleared a few million dollars. Still a lot of money for one night's work. But, he was not set for life like one would expect.

It does suck. Buster is a really great guy in person. He trains kids at a local rec center in Columbus. I took a boxing lesson with him last December. He is as nice as they come. When you get up close with him, you realize how big of a guy he is. Much bigger than Tyson. Makes it seem crazy that he could have been a 40-1 underdog.

Douglas was just as much of a victim as the other guys were.

He was a top ten fighter.

Just saying Tyson beat bigger fighters than Douglas in pro and amateur also. This well-known 40-1 underdog thing
didn't mean Douglas was a bad fighter just Tyson looked so impressive before the Douglas fight.

A diabetic Buster Douglas was not gonna beat Roy Jones. It's also unlikely that this would've directly affected the Tyson-Savarese fight because Lou's rep was largely based on the Foreman fight and, to a lesser extent, the Grant fight.

because holyfield was ranked #1 forever .....by beating tillis/thomas/mcdonough/dokes/rodrigues .....thats why there was no rematch .

Absolutely not. His career as a fighter ended on the night he played dead against Holyfield.

I'm not talking about ducks. I'm saying Douglas would not beat Roy. Douglas was finished, even if he looked okay against limited competition, briefly.
