It depends. If Jones Jr. Tried to sit back and pick off Hearns like he did Toney then he would get clowned. Hearns had an 80 inch reach and was extremely fast and skilled. Bouncing around outside like Jones often did plays right in Tommy's style.
Marginal speed advantage. With Hearns superior timing and reach and technical skill he completely nullifies Jones speed advantage.
He would never have done that though. Again: He'd have either swerved the fight, or he'd have taken it and been aggressive.
It wasn't marginal. Tommy had a great, fast jab. But Roy's other shots were much faster. Roy also had great timing. You can't say he'd have completely nullified Roy's speed: This is Roy at LHW: This content is protected
Roy jones when he swarmed an opponent often did so coming in wide open. But nobody could capitalize on it because they were so preoccupied with his speed. I have a feeling that Jones coming in with off balance, hands low and out of sorts footwork wise eventually walks into a titanic right hand.
Who ever got to Jones first at 160? Jones was definitely faster of hand and foot. Better balance, better reflexes. He would definitely land first.
Reach and skill belong to Hearns. Tommy Hearns if you don't get crack his chin is probably the best fighter ever H2H.
Jones would obliterate Hearns. He'd likely take him out in about four rounds. The guy who struggled with Roldan is not gonna win.
That's quite a statement. Tommy is one of my favorite fighters to watch but he definitely had some flaws. And even at 160, his balance and legs were suspect It would be a great fight.
One hell of a match up, I too pick Hearns to beat Jones at least as a middleweight and perhaps even at light heavyweight. Hearns had the athleticism to keep up with Jones and the boxing skills to out box him. Not to mention Hearns had one of the best right hands in the business which could put Jones lights out if he caught him. Jones Jr was a great special fighter not too many guys I'd pick to beat him especially at middleweight and super middle but Thomas Hearns I think matches up well with him.
