Whether consciously or subconsciously; the British public do not give traveller boxers a fair shake. Lets have a look at three hugely talented traveller boxers who IMO don't get a fraction of the credit or support they deserve.

Tyson Fury: Lineal heavyweight champion of the world at the age of 28, an unbelievable achievement. His win in Germany is as good as any British boxer has achieved yet some still say it was a fluke? Shocking assessment that. He's an unbeaten fighter who took Chisoras 0 and then took his soul in a second fight. Beat Chisora with ease, nobody has done that before or after including Vitali and Haye, the latter scoring an excellent knockout in an otherwise gruelling contest. Yet Fury isn't rated by the British public, nor half the boxing fans on here. How on earth can that be?

Billy Joe Saunders: An extremely talented boxer who won the title off a solid champion in Andy Lee, knocking him down in the process. Also took Chris Eubank Jr's 0 and is undefeated. He's a very young man himself which is frightening considering his achievements in the sport already. I know he hasn't challenged the elite in the division yet and has had some soft fights but that's clearly been his struggling promoters fault - a man Billy is loyal to. Loyalty similar to Fury's for Hennessy, very commendable indeed. I struggle to think of a British fighter with better fundamentals than Billy yet like Tyson, people literally don't rate him, say he'll lose to any decent fighter despite already beating decent fighters and being so young. It's disgraceful really. Another world champion who should be cherished.

Hughie Fury: A less prestigious career than the above two so far, but that's only because he's just 22 years old. He's put together a 22-0 record despite battling a severely weakening illness which is a huge achievement in itself. He's worked his way to a mandatory position and will fight for the heavyweight championship of the world at just 22. Has a Brit ever done this so young? This kid should be the talk of Britain, massive potential and will achieve more in the sport than celebrated Anthony Joshua.

So I ask the question; why are these men given little or no credit despite their great achievements in the sport? I believe it's because they are travelling men. There are just a couple of hundred thousand travellers between Britain and Ireland, yet there are currently two world champions and a third young man challenging for a title a numerous olympic/world amateur medals produced from men in the travelling community. It's about time we gave them the credit and praise they deserve. Fantastic boxers.

In the case of Tyson Fury and BJS, it would help if they got in the ring and fought a bit more often.
If Tyson Fury was taking advantage of his boxing prime and defending his championship status, taking on all-comers and sending them packing, the British public would have to give him credit, love him or hate him.
    Same with Saunders.

Hughie will get his chance soon.

BJS and Fury cannot claim unfair treatment imho, its not like they are not damaging their own careers. Obviously some people wont like Fury or BJS because of their backgrounds but the majority of boxing fans dislike them because they are clowns. Just my two cents.

How many British boxers HAVE gotten the credit they deserve this past 10 years or so?

It's only been this past few years there has been a resurgence in the British boxing scene... as far as exposure goes at least. And as it happens a lot of that is down to Matchroom. Even Froch didn't receive much credit for what he was doing until later on.

I would lay the blame on their promotion more than I would from being travellers. Hopefully being on BT will change that.

Both Tyson Fury and BJS both have the talent AND the wins to command ten times more respect than they get.

Yet on every boxing forum or facebook page people actually have the audacity to call them '****' or 'useless' boxers. Regardless of anything else, thats bias the clearly stems from a dislike of their background. People can and will deny it, but there's no doubt about it in my eyes.

If the OP is referring more to the media than to actual boxing fans then he has a point. I think very few boxing fans are prejudiced against them because of their backgrounds. We just love watching boxing.

The media though, is a different bag. They knew of Fury's views before he won that belt but sat on it until after the fight and set about destroying his achievement.

BJS and Hughie are boring to watch for the casuals. Tyson is entertaining but has been too outspoken.

Andy Lee is well liked because he carries himself with dignity and is entertaining to watch.

It's nothing about being a traveller although you will always get the same idiots who play up to it.

Tyson Fury did get credit for the Wlad win. Overshadowed it with the controversial statements he made after and exile from the ring.

BJS got plenty of credit before he won a World Title. Then was inactive. Turning down fights. Turned down Rosado on Canelo undercard. All other world champs who take the path of least resistance get slaughtered way more than BJS on forums like these.

Hughie has been unlucky in some aspects. I think what hasn't helped his image is his trainer constantly talking about matching him tough but then not doing that. (For the record I think he needs a gradual rise as he is young and lacks the power to compete at the highest level but has had illness and is still growing into his frame)

That's my thought on the 3 of them and I have no Ill wish towards the travelling community. Eubank Jr isn't a traveller and gets more hate than these 3 combined.

None of them have exciting styles and are marketable

Guys like joshua and haye have lots of plus points. Powerful knockout artists, athletic, good talkers. That's an easy sell

Most people can't buy into boxing skills it's about the knockouts

I mean look at ward in America. He's just gone up and beat the destroyer in the weight above , all he gets is **** thrown at him and no recognition. He's not a puncher so boring to casuals , unmarketable

Andy Lee is well liked. He's not arrogant, doesn't seek attention, has his head screwed on, isn't childish, doesn't chat sh1t or take drugs.

Bring these Batman Furys and Robin BJS into a rehab clinic... and sit them down with Andy Lee! Were they will be cleansed and guided back into society to heal.

There are two sides to every coin and whilst they do suffer from a horrible amount of discrimination sometimes there is also an unwillingness to integrate into society that leads to an 'us and them' mentality on both sides.

Andy Lee doesn't have this problem because he doesn't bang on about being a traveller 24/7. He's seen as a regular guy who happens to be from a traveler background. It's not a big deal to anyone with a brain because he's seen as a nice guy. He conducts himself with a lot of dignity, he's never claimed to be a victim and thus none of the criticisms that have been levelled at BJS and the Fury's could ever apply to him.

Complete nonsense. Its the promoters who they have just doing a terrible job. Fury had limited exposure until he got stood up by Haye twice which got his name out a bit more. Infact Haye standing him up was probably the best bit of promotion that ever happened to Tyson until he beat Wlad.

If anything the gypsy element should help in promotiom because people love a blood thirsty gypsy fighter!

Boxing has changed so much . In the old days it was radio then network tv and now some
network tv but mainly cable and ppv which not everybody can afford or have access to. In
the old days travelling overseas and beating the champ meant you would usually end up
getting a ticket tape parade . In the old days there were 8 champs now there is over 50 so
its difficult to stand out. Now major sports like soccer , rugby, tennis , golf , formula one ,
cricket compete for media coverage on tv , print and social media . Boxing is not a active
sport so its quickly forgotten and people want 24 / 7 coverage of sports and that's why
a travelling boxer will never get the gratitude of other sports because of people short
    attention span.
Pacquiao was exception as national hero and Mayweather because he is so active on social
    media.

Traveller boxers do not get a fair shake. The only racism that is acceptable in British society, is racism against whites, and more specifically against white travellers and white Eastern European migrants (especially Romanians and Bulgarians)

When Tyson Fury won the HW title, he was subjected to a targetted campaign of abuse and smears by the mass media. This abuse was tolerated and celebrated purely because he is a white traveller who holds traditional views. Had he been a muslim or black fighter with those traditional views- there would have been ZERO criticism and ZERO abuse. We have examples, many examples in fact of black and muslim fighters who have freedom of speech without criticism.

I feel very sorry for Tyson Fury- I was proud of him becoming the undisputed HW champion and was ashamed of the media and how they treated him. I also strongly believe that his meltdown was partly caused by the media abuse against him. I am ashamed of the cultural marxists in the media who targetted Tyson Fury and made him feel like he was not welcome and had not achieved something great.
