To which gentleman do you refer? Artur or McVey? Yes they have. But Artur's went on to Obliterate former belt holders in his less than 10 pro fights Certain guys - Golovkin Beterbiev and Lomachenko - are different class. These guys learned their trade in the am game, entered the pros, and showed a great chin and great punch power, to back up their ridiculous am credentials Loma having won his first pro belt in his third pro fight, Beterbiev destroying 2 former belt holders with complete ease, and one fight away from a fight with Ward - who i guarantee you will retire before ever entering the ring with this 11 pro fight novice
It happened. Once if not twice Lets hear from the man himself Q: Oleksandr, you won most everything as an amateur, including the gold at the 2012 Olympics. Who would you say gave you your hardest fight as an amateur? Oleksandr Usyk: Well, all those fights, they all took place within the last couple of years or so, so its hard to say. Maybe, if I was pushed to say, it was Artur Beterbiev of Russia who gave me my roughest fight. He is very aggressive and he does hit very hard. Artur gives an incredibly skilled far bigger HW than Marciano his toughest fight.... yet he can't stand up to Don Cockell
Audley Harrison.... who went on to prove he was a glass jawed coward Now what has Artur went on and proven following his ridiculous am pedigree? 11 KOs in 11 fights, obliterating former belt holders with consummate ease Regarded by many as the hardest punching am of all time Yet these mean nothing to you as he's just an 11 fight pro Maybe its time you opened your eyes up to the am game. Certain am Russians/Eastern Euros have risen to the top of the cream in no time at all, others have done so while being avoided like the plague Thanks God the likes of Beterbiev, Kovalev and Usyk didnt have to fight a behemouth like Don Cockell along the way
As McVea says, Audley Harrison’s amateur record looked incredible. Success as an amateur means nothing in the professional game! It has to be proven in the professional arena!
Audley has a glass jaw And very limited skills So the same apply for GGG, Loma, Artur or Sergei? You can no longer just say "am record = meh" Esp in Loma's case - 396-1 - what the hell sort of a record is that?!? If Loma entered with a jaw like Audley or Amir then fair enough, but he didnt GGG - 345-5 - if he entered with an a glass jaw... no he entered with anything but Artur - obliterating everyone brave enough to step up. Fighting HWs in his am run, and beating or giving hell to the best of them. His jaw is already well proven by fighting HWs My point - since the emergence of the Russians/EE's you can no longer slight am pedigree the way certain posters on here do - they are destroying the best of pros who are brave enough to step up I know this stings for a lot of you, but the entire scene has changed GGG - comparisons to Hagler Loma - comparisons to Pep Beterbiev - comparisons to Marciano But, for comedic value lets just stick to the OP.... yes Don Cockell would be far too much for an "unproven" comodity like Artur
Audley did not have limited skills. He was a tall athletic southpaw with a lot of ability. Lenox Lewis admired his inside game. His career in the pros just did not pan out. That's all. What ever it was down to it was not for lack of size or skills.
Beterbiev has already been knocked down by a single punch by the mighty Jeff Page Jnr who is basically a journeyman. I'd wait a bit before claiming we should all be running for the hills at the mention of his name. He's still unproven in the pros.
It's interesting how if Beterbiev was filmed with 50's cameras, the harsh critics here would call him doo doo. Low hands. Little use of head movement. If you mentioned his power, they'd scoff at you.
Who said he didn't have power? So did Lamar Clark! What the more objective posters on this thread have said is he is not yet proven. If you want to believe, as the OP says that he crushes Marciano ,be my guest! WGAF!
