When rocky decided to hang the gloves up Floyd and Archie Moore fought for the vacant title, so let's presume rocky decide to go for the 50 - 0. Up steps young floyd. With only one loss and the fastest hands in the division how would it go,? Rock really wants this last win so trains like a maniac, Floyd is insistent that he respects marciano but is confident. So 15 rounds to decide is this rock last win or do the years finally catch up with him,?
All about how far Rocky's gone back. The further he's gone back the more difficult the fight would be until he crosses a certain threshold into a probable loss, allowing that he can end it with one right. What you're really asking is how far Marciano has slipped.
I admire Floyd. I think he battled through a lot of demons while he was champ and after. To come back after the ingo loss took some doing and against liston he was I believe over come with self doubts. I don't think against rock he would come in with fear. He would probably have quite a bit of confidence thinking perhaps rock s best days were over. Early round s probably all Floyd, fast hands whipping in to the rocks face. At some point maybe half way the rock would find Patterson s chin. Floyd would go down like a ton of bricks. He'd get up cos he had a ton of heart but rock would be all over him. After the three kd s the ref would wave it over.
at the time, pattersons fast hands would have handled the by now lumbering rocky. prime vs prime rocky takes him out, maybe even early.
I think Rocky was ready to be taken. That bad back of his sure showed itself in the Moore fight. fighting young reflexes isn't the easiest path to take, let alone the wear and tear of his long training periods.
Was cus in Floyd's corner at that stage? If he was would he have been comfortable letting Floyd in with rocky even at marciano s age,?
Rocky pulls it out late. Rocky probably behind on points at the time. Staying away from "Susie Q" for 15 rounds would tough for Floyd.
If floyd could hang with and beat the similarly rugged and tough george chuvalo and win fight of the year, he has a chance. Especially given rocky is older and wont have the same reflexes, lean muscles, and cardio of his prime. Of course...given Floyds chin and come forward style there is a BIG chance Rocky lands a bomb, wears him down, and knocks him at at any point of the contest. Power is the last thing to go and Rocky carried it late.
Thanks Joe, it's good to hear positive comments. Some of u fellas on here probably no more about boxing than I'll ever no but I'm always trying to think of things that will get posters, like your self and other s talking about boxing.
