Golovkon forfeited his claim to greatness when he shamefully ducked a fight with Andre Ward. He didn't even have to win , just taking the fight would have improved his standing as an ATG. But then again he might have won , he just didn't have the gonads rise up to the challenge. ATGs don't back down like that. Ward was in a similar position with Kovalev and he grabbed that challenge by the horns. Ward was GGG's Kovalev and we all saw him squirm his way out of it. GGG could have entered the Super 6 if he hadn't over stayed his welcome in the amateurs beating up on inexperienced little kids. But something tells me he would have avoided that too and sat on the side lines fighting bums like Bootay done. Golovkin loves bums.
NO. he didn't try. He wanted little Cotto to come to 160. Fail. He'd go to 154 for Mayweather, but not Cotto. He'd go to 168 for Froch, but not Ward. He just outright ducked Lara.
Its not even just the names on wards resume its the individual accolades & prestige of each fighter he beat & when he beat then Froch top 10 of his generation or era, all time great European fighter, first ballot hof, after ward has 1 of the best resumes in boxing, after ward beat him went on a ATG type run Kessler 1 of the best pure talents from europe, definitely 1 of the best fighters in the last 20 yrs, first ballot hof, 3 time champ, beat froch after losing to ward Dawson 2 time champ, lhw kingpin & p4p at 1 point, another top pure talent, was andre ward before ward took it to the next level Abraham 2 weight champ, was probably the most feared fighter on earth at 1 point, became champ after losing to ward Bika has fought the best of the best & gave them all tough fights, ex champ, became champ after losing to ward Kov whether you think ward beat him or not he still went rd for rd & come back from a knock down vs the most feared & terrifying fighter on earth since mike tyson, top 5 p4p, destroyed everything in his way b4 imo losing to ward, most likely first ballot hofer when its all said & done Miranda 1 of the most notable & respected top MWs in the last 20 yrs, vicious puncher, good figher at his peak Green hell of a left hook, knock out of the century (imo), solid fighter, definitely a underachiever Smith solid & notable name, tough fighter Rodriguez solid fighter, ward took his 0, another solid name on wards resume Barrera originally was considered a tough matchup for ward until ward beat him easily then he became a bum, now he's probably 1 of wards better wins & if he beats beterbiev it solifys ward as top at least 20 all time
You over rate some of the guys. Abraham was a typical cherry picking Euro Champ. His best days were at 160, where he wouldn't have been undefeated without home cooking. Abraham was mediocre at 168. Miranda was not good after Pavlik beat him. Definitely not good at 168. Starting with Kessler nine of Ward's next eleven opponents were decent quality. Kessler has always been over rated though. Froch is an over achiever, who picked and chose who he would fight. Lets not act like Ward fought a murderers row. He did what he should have done in a Super Middleweight division that didn't have much talent.
Mayweather/Gatti Calzaghe/Lacy Hopkins/Pavlik to give a few examples. Many rounds in Ward/Froch were close whichever way someone scored them
EXACTLY!!! This is what im trying to tell these guys Ward has a great resume but it is also on Par with GGGs as i broke down earlier. If Ward wants to be an ATG he would need to rematch Kovalev, beat Stevenson and beat Beterbiev. Ward is yet to become undisputed champ and has expressed no interest in fighting stevenson (undisputed issomething GGG is very close to achiveing) Ward has potential to be ATG but these guys are jumping the gun
Cotto had a title at 160. Right. Mayweather was a titleholder at 154 and GGG was willing to drain himself to get that fight. Right Again. Ward used legal issues as an excuse and went to 175. Fact Froch was planning to come out of retirement but didnt at the prospect of fighting GGG. Fact Even though Lara wasnt a big name K2 gave him the opportunity but like most of these guys he priced himself out. Fact. Any other excuses you want to come up with? Anyways this thread is about Ward not GGG. Ive already said Ward has a great resume, what more do you want
Its all only opinions but I would say off the top of my head that I think Cotto, W Klitschko, Hopkins, Haye, Gonzalez, Bradley have resumes equal or greater. I would have put Kovalevs resume as similar before they fought but now Ward has Kovalevs name on his record
Not even close man. Murray, Macklin, Stevens, Lemieux, Rubio, Monroe etc. aren't even close to comparable to Froch, Kessler, Dawson, Barrera, Kovalev etc.
Kovalev's resume is nowhere as good as Ward's. He made inroads by fighting Hopkins, but be real. It's an old ancient Hopkins. Then there's Pascal who is less than Bika. Chilimba is a good win. Cedric Agnew? No comment. Just like Golovkin's typical opponent. DOn't get me wrong. Kovalev is doing what he should do and his resume is much better than Golovkin's, but much less than Ward's.
All that **** you talking is irrelevant becauce most of the best fighters ever beat fighters that feasted on euro bums that looked dominate & fighters that were overrated or overachievers Like i said every fighter i mentioned has prestige And he actually did fight a murderers row but he's so good that he was a favorite vs everybody after he beat kessler Outside of a prime roy i dont see nobody going undefeated vs Miranda, Kessler, Green, Bika, Abraham, Froch, Rodriguez, Barrara, Kovalov in that order And even roys resume isnt as consistently strong I would pick kov vs a prime bhop & toney And give Froch a good shot vs both Even peak dawson would give both problems Maybe i went over board with top 20 but still his resume is extremely strong
