Show me statements of fighters saying Franklin hit them the hardest, cherry picking examples doesn't prove anything about Franklin I'm afraid.
Franklin handed Abe simon one of his 4 stoppages in 47 bouts. The other three were given to him by Joe Louis ( x2 ) and Buddy Baer. He stopped Jimmy Bivens who was only halted five times in 112 fights. Franklin stopped 28 of his 31 opponents. The man could hit.
He was no monster puncher, you're going by his knockouts of the people he beat. What about all the times he lost? How do you know he didn't hit these people with his best shots before being knocked out himself, doesn't seem that impressive then I bet.
If having a bunch of losses means a guy couldn't crack then Earnie Shavers must have hit like a girl..
You don't see power... You feel it. And it's obvious that some pretty durable guys who fought him did.
And how do you know the people that beat him didn't feel his power yet walked straight through it and beat him nevertheless?
Look, it’s a matter of common sense really. Why do you think that Franklin got as far as he did? He was obviously a fighter with very good power, but not much else. You get them in every era.
Wtf else do you think you're supposed to use for criteria? If knocking out durable people while STILL maintaining a high KO percentage doesn't indicate power then what more is there ? You really think losing a lot of fights means that a guy can't punch? By that logic power would be boxing's only valuable asset. How many times was Earnie Shavers defeated ? What about Elmer Ray? Ross Purity? You seriously think these guys were feather fisted ? Lem Frankli n stopped 27 of his 30 victims several of whom had pretty good chins... That's enough and anyone with common sense would role with it.
