Based on the translation given, GYM is trying to say that Barrera has actually signed and the contract will be submitted.
Either -
Main Events had bamboozled him into signing the contract when he thought he was signing for something else, or some kind of prelim contract
OR
Barrera is lying about not signing the contract (maybe he wants to negotiate something else for the fight) and GYM is exposing him here
OR
GYM is lying - what is the lie in this specific case, I wonder.

OR...my reads on this whole situation are just completely off, I'm confused.

I do not understand barrera now. Barrera is unpredictable. I do not know what he's trying to do... or Main Events communication problem

In short it appears that the contract GYM sent to Barrera is not a valid one by IBF rules, and, although he has already signed that contract, he has now read the fine print and wants a new, valid contract. The sticking point is that GYM put in a provision to change the location and date of the fight depending on financial backing, which is not allowed by IBF purse bid rules and Barrera isn't happy either. Presumably he's worried about the fight suddenly being shifted to Canada at short notice. But apparently Kathy Duva is fine with it, she just told Barrera on Twitter to talk to his team for explanation.

My comment on the above is:
- Barrera should have read the fine print first, and his comments are a little misleading as he has already signed a contract.
- However, he does have a valid point.
- There's absolutely no reason for GYM to need a provision like that. The purse bid was only $250k, in comparison Parker - Fury is $3 million. Clearly Michel is willing to endanger the fight to try to squeeze more money, like I said before he really does not care about Beterbiev's career.

 

Excellent analysis. I'm trying not to think that's the case (Michel throwing Beterbiev on the bench).
So my first idea was somewhat correct; Kathy bamboozled him into signing the contract - she was always only going to explain things afterwards lol. Kathy can be dodgy, too.

 

If they tried to shift it to canada on short notice then that's clear beterbievs promoter doesn't want to risk beterviev vs barrera, barrera by law can never fight in canada, barrera is already getting a terrible purse split for this fight having it in miami was a must
