It's a shame that Krusher has been shelved

    Ward dragging his feet on the rematch is stalling out Krushers career. 3 months out and not even begun negotiations. Ward still throwing a pity party about not getting respect and threatening retirement.

    I can see Ward stalling Sergey out for a solid 9 months. If Sergey fights during the stall he loses immediate rematch rights.

    Ward likes to wait and chill
    Sergey likes being active

    Really don't like Andre

    But that said yeah I'd like to see Kovalev remain active.

    I agree. Kov can't even take a fight just to stay busy while he is waiting on this and he isn't even sure if he can get the rematch.

    This doesn't really make sense since for rematches clauses the terms of the rematch are already written up in the contract from the first fight. There isn't even anything really to negotiate and Ward is technically already in breach of contract for not being subject to the drug testing for the fight. Unless something changes in like, the next month, it seems like they are going to have to take Ward to court over this which also sucks for Kovalev.

    maybe kovalev should have knocked ward out then?

    look..i like kovalev....alot..i have alot of respect for him....dont start being doosh and making me remind you he lost a good fight

    It makes perfect sense, because regardless of anything you wrote, Ward IS INDEED in the driver's seat. Make no mistake about that.

    And I'm no lawyer, but I don't think they have a case against Ward for breach of contract. Rematch clauses are a funny business, that aren't always black and white. Ward has every right to retire, or to take proactive steps to renegotiate the rematch terms. It happens all the time, and in instances when rematch clauses are taken to court, there's no real consistency on the rulings as far as I'm aware.

    For instance, Lewis won his case to land an immediate rematch with Rahman when Don King was just itching to put Rahman up against Tyson. But Chad Dawson had to wait in line while Bernard Hopkins got to fight, and then rematch with Pascal while Dawson had to wait.

    Now I've never seen the rematch clause, I have no idea what's in it, and I have no idea how a court may or may not ultimately rule should this land in a court room.

    But I do know that Ward is in the driver's seat. There's no denying that fact.

    That has absolutely nothing to do with what I just said. I'm saying that the terms of the contract are already written out from the first fight. The language basically says that the terms are beneficial to the winner, which was Ward. These terms are already established. There is nothing to negotiate.

    First fight was awesome, I don't understand why some boxing fans seem to be HAPPY there's no rematch? This is illogical for anyone who loves boxing.

    its not as if kovalev fought someone and breached the contract...and then ward fought on....like people would let ward off the hook without giving kova his rematch at some point......wards credibility/legacy would take a huge hit if he and kovalev fought on without ward giving kova the rematch

    the terms are written? we already know whos getting what money? how do they set terms for a rematch when they dont even know what the first fight numbers are gonna be? what if ward agreed to take 5 mil for the rematch and the ppv had sold 900k ppvs?

    That's the thing everyone seems to be forgetting. Kovalev had Ward exactly where he wanted him, and he couldn't close the show. If you would have told me before the match-up, that Kovalev would rock Ward badly with a jab in round 1, and then drop him hard with a counter right in round 2, I would have assumed this wouldn't bode well for Ward. But Andre persevered, overcame adversity, and was able to dictate the pacing of the action the rest of the way.

    Kovalev got off to as fast a start as he could have hoped for, but he was never able to follow up that quality 2nd round with another big round. He had Ward right where he wanted him, and he couldn't close the show.
