Before their respective fight I would say Kovalevs resume is comparable. The Hopkins Kovalev beat away, I think many would have favoured over many of Wards opponents when he fought them as the home fighter. Also Kovalev had twice been on the road to beat Pascal who I think at LHW is as comparable to Bika, possibly greater at LHW than Bika at SMW (certainly debatable). When Ward fought Bika, Sakio had not been very active at that time and been clearly beaten before, whereas there are some that felt Pascal had won the fights he didnt get the decisions in at that time. Kovalev went on the road to beat an undefeated world champ in Cleverly. Yes I think very comparable at that time
This post just shows you the bias against non-American fighters. American boxers ALWAYS fight in USA only and when Wladimir Klitschko chooses a different country as his base (but still fights plenty of big fights in other people's backyards despite always being the A-side) that is not even his home country it's somehow wrong.
That's a testament to how sh!tty both the division, and Golovkin's resume is. None of those guys would be one of the ten best middleweights, most years in the 90s.
That isn't a murderers row. I wouldn't pick Kovalev over a Prime Hopkins or Toney. Hopkins and Toney would have beat the sh!t out of Froch, worse than Taylor was doing before he gassed. Peak Dawson was no joke. Peak Dawson beat Adamek, Johnson, and Tarver, convincingly. Ward didn't fight a peak Dawson though. He fought a weight drained Dawson. A prime Hopkins would have handled Dawson though. In Hopkins prime, he wasn't the slow of foot 40 plus year old most of you youngsters know. I didn't say Ward's resume was trash. I said it was good, but a bit over rated, due to the Super Six being over rated.
I do agree that the 90s and 00s MWs was better than many remember which I think was mainly due to Hopkins dominance. Prime Echols, Eastman, Holmes were all good MWs who I think would be top MWs if around today. H Simon I think would also be top and there were good guys around like Cherifi, Joppy, McCracken
Even before that. None of Golovkin's opponents would have been top 10 in years where the division had Hopkins, Jones Jr., Toney, McClellan, Julian Jackson, etc.
you're confusing form with styles make fights when you made this post (the original one I referred to) about ward, it was about the time you said in another post that Calzaghe wasn't getting the props he deserved for beating Hopkins - then in the next breath you are assassinating andre ward - who's achievements are AT LEAST on par with Calzaghe. I can't see the logic in calling mikkel Kessler "faded" based on the inference (your own) that he had a loss next to his name. character is born from our most difficult times, and to infer that a fighter like Kessler was never the same as he was before Calzaghe is rubbish.he was beat by the better man (Calzaghe), but proved he was still a world class player at SMW by beating froch
Ward has one of the best resumes in boxing, this is undeniable. Ward fights dirty. Tough sh!t for his opponents. Andre Ward is old school and Beterbiev still has to pass the Barerra test before I give him a shot to beat S.O.G. I favour Kovalev to win the rematch (again) but I am not as confident as I was before the 1st fight, Andre proved in that fight he will never give up and that there is nothing he won't do to get the win. How can anybody question this champion when he is fresh from taking on an undefeated KO machine whom he moved up a division head-hunting. Modern Great. (even if he is on a power trip)
