The referee was pathetic. He just wanted an excuse to stop it after the knockdown even though Wilder's follow-up wild swings weren't even connecting. Just watch him try to, at one point try to stop it by stepping in but then quickly jumps back out because he's afraid that Wilder's uncontrolled swings might hit him. He then wait until he thinks it safe and grabs Wilder and stops the fight even though none of Wilder's swings had really connected with Washington.

His jab looked weaker than I previously thought, his balance looked suspicious again as Washington was pushing him back with his jab and I think both Wlad and Fury from 2015 would've beaten him. But, with that right hand, which he can score with from the outside and from the mid-range, you just can't wright him off against anyone. Not against Joshua/Wlad, against Ortiz or Parker.

my opinion still stands though that this was more of Wilder fighting an off night than Washington doing anything special

I do believe the way Wilder performed last night would have seen him in serious trouble vs a true top guy

He may get KO'd. Washington was pumping out an aggressive jab the first two rounds. Wilder was totally disrupted by it. Too bad Washington let his foot off the gas. Once Washington stopped being aggressive, Wilder took control. I think the first guy that Wilder fights, who puts a decent right hand behind the jab will beat him.

Wilder is severely flawed, but his size and power bail him out.
