There are a lengthy list of Cuban boxers, who are increasingly and since years confronting lack of fights, not to mention meaningful fights … There is the well known case of the flagship of Cuban boxing, Guillermo Rigondeaux, “el Chacal”, reportedly avoided by Leo Santa Cruz and by both british Divas, Frampton and … undefeated and still waiting that somebody have enough balls to fight for the titles he posseses. The rolle of certain promoter, once his promoter, to make the Cuban master insignificant is well documented. That same promoter, Bob Arun was instrumental on derailing the once formidable fighter Yuriorkis Gamboa: … Reportedly one of the most exciting entertainers in the box business. His decay shows that the business logic doesn’t exist in boxing. Instead it depends on the feud of a couple of diligent manipulators. I remember when he stood his ground against the best lightweight out there against the bigger Crawford and in his only defeat to date, … HBO promised him the world after such a courageous performance. Just to put him in the limbo for a couple of years … The case of Luis Ortiz is another remarkable one … not only was his interim title vanished without losing any fight, but he is still looking for a dance with a significant partner … Wilder and many others find repeatedly whatever excuses to avoid the Cuban giant. Another sound case is Yunier Dorticós, who was considering for a long time leaving boxing because no fights being offered … Eventually a lucky call saved him, which propelled him to the top of the cruiserweight division. It happened that the French boxing elite wanted to pit their fighter Yuri Kalenga against a ranked fighter, and they wrongly picked the Cuban Dorticos, who at the end, spoiled their party, by Ko-ing Kalenga in a remarkable fight of the year candidate. Thereafter not only his so called World championship title was devaluated in a fraudulent way, but since then and since many months Dorticós is still waiting for another worthy fight … But what can be added to Erislandy Lara drama? The “American dream” is desperately looking for another significant fight in his already brilliant resume. But had to conform with low profile fights one on top of the other … There is a similar situation with Rances Barthelemy, an exciting world champion in two weight classes ... No fight out there since months ... Other excellent fighters like Luis Franco, Yoandris Salinas are hardly able to find a fight out there … Thus with few opportunities left, Cubans are taking the risky way … Sullivan Barrera is for example taking on Arthur Beterbiev, the most avoided man in the 175 weight class and top 5 ranked in most boxing organization. Similarly Yuniesky Gonzalez has to dance with another top 10 ranked, undefeated fighter, Olexander Gvozdyk, another super talent from the Ukraine with already high rankings in almost all organizations … There are other examples as well. Since his defeats years ago, Yordanis Ugas was fed three undefeated fighters looking for a significant name in their resume. But instead he defeated all three … and is looking or the next one eager to feast on him. Some of them decided to completely retire from boxing, when opportunities simply do not turn their ways … there is for example the junior middleweight Inocente Fiz, who recently decided to walk away after being undefeated after 19 fights …
Too slick, Too southpaw, Too cuban….Seriously though Cubans should buy new identities before turning pro.
Richard Abril went MIA after the Rios robbery. He was solid. English is holding these Cubans back. Now that Obama destroyed that Cuban immigration nonsense they just might assimilate better. Cubans actually believe that they don't HAVE to learn English. Ask CST80 if I'm lying.
Cuban boxing. Lara? Rigo? who wants to watch them honestly? PBC, HBO , SHO...nobody features these fights. It's dying because it's miserably boring and these cubans don't seek out the top challenges. Why isn't Rigo fighting Loma for instance? Your naming fighters above that nobody has ever heard of.
Salinas injured his hand against Alvarado (I believe, it was after the Quigg fight) and re-injured the same hand in the Avila fight...!!! Last I heard his manager said his hand required multiple surgeries, thus causing him to be shelved for a couple years...!!!
I don't know enough about Cuban boxing. Does anyone have any good book recommendations on the subject?

Don't care about Cubans and I wish every other boxer, regardless of race or creed, who is boring and doesn't engage is never featured on tv.
You may think of conspiracy theories, but these are facts, if you you take the 18 best ranked Cuban boxers total 32 fights in total for the year 2016, less than 1,8 fights pro fighter ... Gamboa had no fights in 2016, Rigondeaux, Barthelemy, Lara and many others just one meager fight in that whole year ... really not what all they want ...
Some of those Cubans hurt themselfs, Rigondeaux and Lara with they conservative style, say what you want, but if you want to box to showcase your skill you should stay in the amateurs, if you want the money you have to give the fans what they want. Gamboa hurt himself by signing with 50Cent. Odlanier Solis, Mike Perez and almost every cuban heavyweight has been out of shape in the ring, in the case of Luis Ortiz, he isn't the only heavyweight affected by the fact that the heavyweight champions are defending their belts against low caliber oposition. Those are the elite cubans, the rest aren't that good to reach the top level and the best cubans are in the amateurs right now, La Cruz, Ramirez, Lopez and others.
