What Bellew should do to win

I think you're crazy but if you are right or even if you are right in thinking that this will be competitive I'll come back and give you props.

This to me is like GGG-Brook when a good number of posters here genuinely though Brook could win.

 

Survive the early onslaught which will be very hard, from then on in he catch hate with something big.

David is designed for 12 rounds!!

 

The only point of this fight is to milk casuals. Very likely it turns out to be a fiasco.

 

Go and get in a ring with a boxer bigger than you, faster, more skillful, more experienced and with incredible punching power and try to drag the fight past 6 rounds.

The logic is good, drag Haye into the later rounds and he might gas out... but Bellew doesn't have the skill or speed to avoid Hayes punches for more than a couple of rounds... and as soon as he feels the power of a legit big punching heavyweight, he will crumble.

Go and look at the bookies odds, they're rarely wrong.

 

GGG vs Brook was a great fight, Brook was doing very well until the eye injury.

This fight will be nothing like that, this will look a lot like the Haye vs Maccarinelli fight.

 

I'm not comparing the fights together, I'm saying that it was bizarre to me that a lot of people here thought Brook could win when he absolutely had zero chance. For me, it's the same situation here.

 

Agree with Hankey89.

I have nothing against Bellew, think he is a very good pundit / commentator also in fact. When he's calm and talking about boxing normally he's great to listen too.

However, he doesn't have the same skill or speed as Haye as Hankey said.

The main one for me is this, Bellew has been dropped - multiple times and stopped at LHW, ok he may of been weight drained but he's also been hurt at Cruiserweight. In his defence though, he's always gotten up off the floor when floored and also won.

Then you have Haye, who has a much much higher KO % and has knocked out legit HWs easily.

Unless some freak injury, I'm just not sure how Bellew win's, he won't want to engage much if he does feel Haye's power so I don't expect Haye to have to work too hard if this does happen.

No one's mentioning how the additonal weight is going to effect Bellew either, because he's going to come in heavier then usual.

 

Haye stopped Fragomeni and Ruiz late. His stamina is fine. He gets a 2nd wind in about round 7.

 

That was 7 & 11 years ago...before he retired for 5 years.

If the length of the fight was a concern it'd be a 10 round fight.

 

No not at all. I'm just pointing out that maybe many people are trading on David Haye being the same fighter as he was 5 years ago.

 

Does anyone know? If bellews loses does he still get first dibs at fighting the breidis/huck winner for his old belt?

 

As it's at heavy I wouldn't have thought it would effect cruiser rankings so much

How can Bellew win? With great difficulty. If he's to win he has to excellent defensively - which he normally isn't. Getting clipped by Flores is one thing getting clipped by Haye could be night night.

His jab has to be a real weapon Haye is gunna sit on the back foot Bellew's jab needs to be heavy and varied and stop Hayes ambushes.

Bellew can't afford to miss he has to be accurate which shots. Otherwise heavy counters are coming his way.

Pace - Haye likes long reset times between assaults - Bellew can't let him rest - he can't afford to go full Ricky Hatton but he needs to make Haye work at a pace he isn't comfortable at.


That said. If Haye is 75% of what he was he wins. Haye's backfoot counter style is perfect for a guy who tends to be very upright, very othadox and Tony generally can be very wild. Haye will love that. I'm saying Haye in 4 rounds.

The most interesting thing for me in this fight is how much speed does Haye have. I don't think he's as fast as people are making out after the lay off and that could give Tony a glimmer.
