I already know he is a hype job who made a career on beating on smaller big named fighters/and past it fighters. But this fight will prove once and for all what he is about
I'm quite sure Thurman is going to win this hands down. I just hope we don't get another "it was a close fight, and if you score round 5, 7 and 8 for..... then it isn't really a robbery" controversy.
To be fair Danny ruined 2 prime fighters on his come up. Amir Khan has never been the same since and you know it and Lucas Matthysse has never looked the same or gotten a KO since his fight with Danny. Danny is the truth at 140 but 147 guys may be too big for him. This content is protected This content is protected
And he wont get credit for either of them from haters like boxingmaster. You can actually dig up threads of him arguing the knockdown of matthyse was not legit. I went and watched it and could not see what the **** he was talking about
Danny Garcia is proven, Only a complete demolition at the hands of Thurman could take some of the shine off him. Even in that (fairly unlikely) outcome Thurmans standing would be elevated more than Garcias tarnished and Danny was still the man who went to war with L. Matthysse and finished him as far as being relevant goes. Thurman T.K.O.
I think the problem with Danny has been the lack of solid competition he's had since facing Matthyse. He took on Rod Salka which came out of left field and was extremely disappointing to see a lineal champ take on a guy outside of the top 10 ranking. He followed that up with some controversial wins over Herrera- who most observers thought clearly won the fight- and than a razor close decision win over Lamont who arguably outworked Danny in that fight but he joked around a little too much with his in ring antics (shuffling his feet, even attempting bolo punches if I'm not mistaken.) Most people believe he should have at least one loss on his resume if not more. He also had a close fight with Robert Guerrero who most people believe was past his best at the point they met up. This is easily the best competition Garcia has taken on in nearly 4 years since beating Lucas at 140 lbs. Danny doesn't have a good win yet at 147 lbs, his KO power hasn't come up with him to WW and he's about to step into the ring with a full-fledged, dangerous 147 lber whose been stepping up his level of competition on a fight by fight basis in Thurman. If Keith fights smart and stays in perpetual motion in the fight and is crafty with his punching ability off his backfoot, I can see him cruising away with this one. I also believe he has the power to hurt Danny and potentially stop him if he follows through with some punches afterward.
Still chuckle at that 1st Khan knockdown. That shot should not really turn a man to jelly. It is scary just how soft that chin of his is.
You guys forget how highly viewed and ranked Khan and Matthysse were when he beat them. Going into the fight, most of ya'll would've claimed it a legit 5 star victory and probably the best victory on paper in the calendar year should Garcia pull it off. Just most of us, me included, didn't think he would. That was a tremendous win. Short term memory and boxing fans, not surprising.
His best win mathysee was never that great to begin with. you guys saw what pistol did to him. Imo he needed to fight a cotto, jmm, Bradley, may, pac, porter, Crawford, Mikey Garcia, Brooke, maidana, spence. A class level fighters. Thurman is in that class so this is his first real test. Technically I'd put khan on that list too but I rate that win just about as much as Rahman ko of Lewis. It's clear which fighter was winning, but khans China got caught. Doesn't prove much, just says he gets outboxed by the guy but lands a punch with his eyes close (I know he timed him) on a chinny fighter and ko'd him.
We saw what he is about against Matthysse. If he hasn't proven himself to you already then he never will. He isn't the most skilled and should've lost against Herrera and Peterson, but the man takes tough fights. Whether it be top dog in the division or a stylistic threat, he's everything we ask for.
