I know what you're saying about him asking for a rematch but I think with boxing matches it's important for the losing fighter to say they want a rematch right after the fight because it let everyone know the ball is in the other fighters court and sets up the narrative publicly. Fantastic fight and gentleman at the end.
Credit for bravery, but he is the one who said he was so good that he would take out bellew inside 2-3 rounds. The injury occurred in the 6th. So all that talk and hype which everyone fell for once again, was nothing but hot air. Credit should be going to bellew who against all odds backed up every word he said pre-fight and made haye's team quit.
Haye did show gr8 bottle if his leg injury is genuine, but he was losing at that stage. I don't have sympathy because of the things he said in build up about putting Tony in a grave, say bye to your papa bed ones as u will die etc.
David Haye showed a class and humility at the end of the fight that I didn't think was in him. I really hope he recovers from this injury, although I have my doubts because it looks like a surgery job and how many surgeries can you have at 37 and be okay to fight from? If he comes back I'll be half-rooting for him in the rematch because he gave it his all, as did Tony.
They'll take a look at the PPV numbers and get a rematch signed very quickly. The insane build-up makes me think it probably did silly numbers. Add to that it proved an extremely entertaining fight, even in the early going when Haye was cat and mousing him. There was always that feeling that Haye's wrecklessness could get him countered. That's before the real drama of the fight even started... the public will lap up a rematch. Other than retirement, does Bellew fight Usyk, Gassiev or maybe Briedis? Of course not, those are all extremely high risk/low reward fights. The big money's still with Haye, he would more than likely be able to demand the lion's share of it too. All of this depends on how serious Haye's injury is, but it's a no-brainer.
It definitely did silly numbers because sky box office actually broke lol. Hearn said to Chisora it could be 800k yesterday before the fight even happened. Wouldn't be surprised if it surpassed Froch/Groves 1mill+
Yeah luck, as in the better fighter (as Bellew admitted) getting injured. Oh and spare me the old grandad one liners.
