I've always said that David Haye is an ATG in theory. People (mainly idiot casuals) constantly state "Haye WOULD do this..." "oh Haye can easily KO Joshua..." etc etc. His resume at HW was awful. In this fight, from the first bell, I knew Haye was nowhere as athletic as he was when he fought Wlad. He looked stiff, slow feet and legs, Bellew made him miss and countered. I'll give him credit for not quitting and he took Bellew's shots well. However, Bellew took Haye's power shots, also. He looked stunned by a few but never in major trouble. And this was a man Stevenson stopped rather easily. Tony def gassed after the 7th and didn't have much meat on his shots afterwards. A little bit of karma for Haye there and I'm glad he was very humble afterwards and gave full credit to Tony. He must retire now surely, he has virtually zero credibility left now and claimed this would be over in less than a minute, would be a decapitation etc. Adios Bermondsey *****!
Bellew is a different animal at the higher weights, he fought a smart fight. Haye was beaten by inactivity, but showed amazing heart.
Haye did look a bit hunched over. I thought in Round 1 Haye was out of sorts, he missed wildly and really looked the brawler in there. Rounds 2-4 though Haye looked more focused and I thought he was getting to Bellew. Bellew had almost no offense in rounds 2-4. Then Bellew started coming on.
I am reminded of the comment about politicians - all careers end in failure. The same is generally true of boxers. Haye never really got fighting fit again after coming out of his retirement, and he never truely lived up to his potential before that. He always seemed to be more interested in self-promotion rather than making the most out of his career and being the most successful boxer he could be.
Let's say it like it is. Bellew is way better than the version of Wladimir that fough Haye. Wlad's prime was earlier, according to many users here and fans of boxing.
I think he looked terrible but he was winging wild shots in the first 3 rounds to put Bellew away. As he ended up with an injury I reckon he was a little desperate to get him out but it was way too wild and easy to avoid for Bellew. When he boxed properly in the end of the 4th the 5th and until his injury he was getting better and technically looking good.
He looked terrible early on. Awful stylisticly. But settled by about the 5th. Then... Still would have lost though.
They say Boxing is 90% mental, Haye was mentally not right. Too much pent up tension and the inability to control it in the ring, He was trying to force everything. He settled in a little but never truly got in the zone, Ring rust at its finest. This is why i don't want floyd to come back, People can get old over night, you get in the ring and its simply not there any more, i would hate to see floyd get whooped by somebody he would have whooped in his prime.
He looked terrible for 3 rounds but was still 4-2 up and was starting to look better when the injury robbed everyone of a proper fight.
He looked pretty sh!tty since his comeback. Way slower and more telegraphed with his shots. His footspeed and head movement were the only things that still looked on point but his hands were massively diminished.
He isn't a HW and never was. His skeletal structure isn't equipped to carry all that bulk in a fight. Too much mass. Its why he can't throw combo's and only ever has a game plan involving of landing a hayemaker. He blew his knee out cos he is too top heavy. Its like when Cleverly went to Cruiser. He was ripped and muscular but he had no energy after the 6th round. Haye is only fit for Cruiser like Clev is only fit for 175 http://i43.tinypic.com/snot36.jpg He should never have pumped himself up that big but only did cos the HW division at the time was less competitive than his own smaller division.
