Well Bellew has proved himself enough for Ron Lyle. Ron was just a contender too. I don't get this business of Ron Lyle being an ATG. He was a muscular guy who was rated for a bit in the 1970s. That's it.
All joking aside, Haye was expected to smash through Bellew and get a title shot. He was considered one of the best HW fighters in the world based on talent. The fact Bellew was able to outspeed the fastest HW today and take his punches does make me consider how much of an advantage size really is. Bellew was never considered a fast LHW but he was easily quicker than Haye. And the first 5 rounds Haye was winning but he wasn't dominating, Bellew was sticking to his gameplan. I know Haye got injured and is now considered shot but it was a very interesting result.
I know, it wasn't until the Bellew fight where we realised it though. He looked quick knocking over the two low level opposition.
Im not an expert on Lyle. His 2 biggest fights were losing in that amateurish brawl with Foreman and being stoped by a past his best Ali. Would i be right in saying he lost his best years in prison ?

Dare I hope that Bellew has put an end to the Haye vs. Dempsey, Haye vs. Louis, and Haye vs. Marciano threads? Dare I hope that he has taught people that size is not everything, and that speed and intangibles also come to the table?
