Marquez is greater. I think that his biggest wins are greater than Cotto's.

Well how does that make sense? You're okay with someone thinking fighter A beat fighter B, but not saying it? Fans are evenly split on the first two fights, it's no crime to say Marquez beat Pacquiao in either fight.

Juan Manuel Marquez for me. In fact, I think he's quite ahead of Cotto on the ATG rankings.

I remember starting to watch JMM around the time he fought Chris John in Indonesia. After that loss, he changed his style a bit and became more of an action pack fighter. He was always a terrific boxer with elite counterpunching ability, but he started traded in the pocket a lot more after that fight.

He has some very big wins, including beating Barrera (while he was a bit over the hill he still had a decent left in the tank,) and obviously his 4 fights with the great Manny Pacquiao. His fights at LW were legendary; some of the most entertaining fights I've ever seen was when JMM was campaigning at 135 and beating guys like Juan Diaz (who was undefeated at the time and the recognized kingpin of the division,) and Kastidis.

The only guys I definitively rate over him in this era are Mayweather Jr and Pacman. For me it's a debate between whether JMM or Ward are the 3rd best of this era. Marquez' resume is that great.

I'm not ok with fans saying fighter A beat fighter B and using a matter of fact tone in a disputed fight. Especially when fighter A actually lost the decision.

What if he just said that Marquez might've beaten Pac twice and knocked him unconscious while Cotto got tkod. Is that better or shall we delve deeper?

I'd say Marquez if there was a gun to my head, even though he
toiled in obscurity early on in his career, he was consistently
known as a foil to a top 20 ATG and widely considered one
of the best pure boxers out of Mexico ever.

Okay, I don't really have a problem with that, I'll just disagree with the poster and whip out my card without ever referring to the judges.

JMM is ahead of Ward at the moment, Ward needs to beat Kovalev in the rematch to open that conversation imho.

I need to watch MarquezPac 1, 2 and 3 again. I was half asleep during JMMPac3.
Usually if the fights are even and could go either way, I brand them as 'E' for Even. I don't necessarily say one fighter won or lost, it's just not fair.

Btw folks, Marquez beat Chris John and Freddie Norwood in reality.
Take my word for it, do not watch the Norwood fight. It's one of the most boring fights in history.
