I would have to pick Beterbiev to knock Barrera out..............Haven't spoken to John in years..............

Very unfortunate. I wonder what the disagreement was, perhaps it was the money, Barrera purse was only $80k apparently.

 

Sullivan Barrera was sent a contract and signed it without realising it was the main contract. Kathy Duva told Barrera on twitter that she'll explain it to him.
He clearly didn't like the explanation.
This is all a big circus act, it absolutely sucks being a Beterbiev fan

 

Something is highly suspect here.

Barrera said that if he had signed the main contract by mistake he would go through with it, and that was awhile ago; in-between Barrera had tweeted to the effect that he was fighting Beterbiev. I begin to doubt GYM and Duva claiming that the deal was signed and done mid February, that tweet says that they failed to reach a final agreement, not that Barrera pulled out. If Barrera had actually signed a final contract he would have been forced to fight or face a lawsuit.

So IMHO one of the promoters, or both, has robbed us of this fight. Yvon Michel has shown time and time again that he will not spend any money to build up Beterbiev, $80k is a small purse for a final eliminator. Both Ward and Shabranssky managed to get fights with Barrera, fights that they were expected to win; so why can't Beterbiev get the same? I could also imagine Kathy Duva being unwilling to let her fighter take such a dangerous fight for peanuts, if matched well Barrera could go on to be a star. It's definitely not a good business decision for Barrera to fight Beterbiev unless he's very well paid.

 

Hopefully it does happen, I remember it was a bit like this when waiting for Ward-Barrera to be confirmed.

 

Michel won the purse bid and it's split 75-25 in favor of Beterbiev. If Duva wanted her fighter to get more money it was up to her to bid more.

Beterbiev has no fanbase in Canada. He is a Muslim that isn't fluent in english nor french. He wouldn't sell out a basement church. Promoters are not in the business of losing money. They aren't going to bid +1million on a fight when they know damn well they will lose a ton of money.

PS: This is a great fight and I can't wait to see it. Hopefully it will be on tv somewhere...
