I respect Jack Dempsey as a great champion in his own time and he was definitely a lock for top 10 up to the latter half of the 20th century. But with the more recent inductions of men like Larry Holmes, Mike Tyson, Evander Holyfield, Lennox Lewis, etc, I just don't think there's room for him in there anymore. Dempsey only defended his title 6 times in 7 years and sat on the crown for 3. He also left a lot of unanswered questions about a few of the top challengers of his day, especially Harry Wills.

Technically Dempsey has a great shot of beating both Louis and Ali, top 2 in my book. His impact on 20th century boxing speaks for itself. No top ten list IMO is valid without him.

I'll agree with your comment about him expanding the popularity of the sport.

Respect for Witherpsoon, he's in my top 25.

How I see it now, a mix of legacy and head to head with even rules for 15 rounds and the assumption that everybody's on the same nutrition and legal supplements, with some leeway for old timers that are athletic enough to adapt to a more modern training.

Just missing the cut: Schmeling, Walcott, Baer, Wills, and Sullivan.

All are on film, expect for Peter Jackson and Sullivan

I'm just curious, what in your view puts him above, let's say Marciano?
