I agree with that. But it's also in Beterbiev's interests to make sure the fight goes through, $68k is a tiny purse and Michel should have been willing to offer Barrera more than that.

 

Apparently giving him the fight in his backyard was not good enough for him. He also wanted much more money and is now playing the victim through the media after ducking this opportunity and you dummies lick it all up believing every bit of garbage he and his team spew.

Also pretty disgusting how he can insult Argentinian culture without any consequences. If anyone had insulted Cuba we would never hear the end of it.

Beterbiev cannot make these people fight him FFS he agreed to fight him in his backyard but none of you mention this.

 

My complaint is not with Beterbiev at all, it's with his promoter Michel, who is also Adonis Stevenson's promoter. Neither am I exonerating Barrera & Duva, they did make a business decision to avoid Beterbiev.

Yes, it was in Barrera's hometown which was very generous of Beterbiev and co, but still Michel should have tried harder to make the fight, including offering more money. It's very annoying how GYM, having Stevenson, Alvarez, and Beterbiev, never give Beterbiev any opportunities to fight a good name while working very hard for the careers of the first two (protection in the case of Stevenson).

 

Not only that, that he was getting peanuts, but also that team Beterbiev was playing the game "there will/won't be fight", first with Beterbiev being muslime and because of Trump, then their desperation for settling with Main Events and finding other sponsors to copromote the fight ...

Guys in Barrera's position have jumped at fights like this in the past. Keep winning and the money will come. Only person who deserves blame in this instance is Barrera and his team.

A guy like Hopkins would have gladly taken that purse for a fight like this on his way up.

 

OK, so Barrera & Duva are at fault here, but I still think Beterbiev / Michel should have been willing to give him $125,000 if that was needed for the fight to go through.

It's more than $50k better for Beterbiev than looking around for a replacement opponent who will probably be much less credible.

 

Yes, the primary blame goes to Barrera and his team.

Plus this would have been a nice name for Beterbiev to have on his list. I think the kid has the goods but also some flaws that have not been fully exposed. He needs more exposure as had to watch his last fight on a damn Russian stream FFS
