How good was Antonio Margarito?

Yep. Amazing chin, stamina and toughness .... but there's an asterisk next to his whole career.

Margarito Cotto I is one of my all time favorite fights. In the top 3 for me. I remember Cotto dancing around the ring and landing so many flush shots on Margarito. And Cotto was the bigger puncher, but it didn't faze Margarito. I mean not even one bit. And Margarito is just throwing avalanches of punches and then he had that little smirk as he's nodding his head trying to get in more air. And then unload some more punches.

Then Cotto dips the knee. Margarito jogs towards Cotto and then Cotto quits the fight. That was incredible to me. I had never seen that. Somebody's will beaten out of them like that before.

 

Mosley is an EPO and Steroid abuser. Margarito was railroaded. Big difference.

 

Why his WHOLE career? There is absolutely NO evidence - other than the debatable evidence in the Mosley fight - that Margarito used anything other than his natural ability to win any fight.

 

He was so good he needed to load his wraps with plaster !!!

 

Before or after he stopped loading his gloves ?

 

Prime Margs was seriously a ****ing beast.

A force of humanity! A punching machine!

We'll long debate about how long Margs was loading his gloves before that infamous Shane Mosley fight took place.....but we'll never know for sure... he was never proven guilty..... and he was a load to deal with.

Go back and revise Tall Paul Williams vs Antonio. Sneaky great fight.

I like how Margarito fights he brings it unfortunately I think he was a clear cheater at least in his best win vs Cotto. I believe his gloves we're loaded in that fight and I don't think he could've beat Cotto. Regardless I still think he was a championship level contender based on his skills and grit.

 

Margarito was at his best with loaded gloves. There's no denying he wore fighters down round by round as the concrete hardened. Unfortunately after Brother Naz snitched on him, everyone beat him. Shame on Naz, why can't a brother use loaded gloves? This is Antonio Margarito, the people's champion, CJ's crush! My guess is Tony can still use his brick laying skills in Tijuana construction.

Hair is to Samson as Bricks are to Margarito. Was never the same fighter. Just sad really.

 

These cotto fans yelling concrete gloves, are probably the same ones yelling "hacks" when they are getting their butt's kicked.
