Disclaimer: This is not a concrete source so disregard it if you like, a couple videos on YouTube have been circulating claiming that this Brook vs Spence fight is off, due to Brook pulling out. I do think Brook was not keen on this fight as he views Spence as a big threat, I do find a bit alarming that the fight has not been made official. I hope these rumours are not true and we get to see this welterweight classic because I genuinely think these are the two best WW atm in regards to the eye test. Thoughts?
Definitely agree he didn't want it to begin with, he said first that he doesn't know who this 'spencer' character is, after the fight was announced he said I wanna give the fight all the fans want. Wtf talk about a contradiction.
He has to fight Spence if he doesn't I'm done with Brook. I wouldn't be surprised if he's back discussing a fight with Khan again.
Major duck by Brook if true. Willing to wait for official boxing news sources to weigh in. I want to see this fight so this sucks.
Really hope this is not true, this is the fight I'm looking forward to the most. It's definitely being pushed back to June or July even if it isn't true.
How convenient. He'll drop the IBF title and be spared a beating.....and he'll move up and fight for the vacant IBF jr. mw belt that was recently vacated by jermall charlo against a no-name (the IBF 154lb rankings are a joke!) live to fight khan another day.
If there is anything in this rumour this sounds like the likely reason. Khan has lost his Pac fight so might have approached Hearn asking for this fight. It is a bigger fight in the UK and PPV money will make it more lucrative for Brook...so I can see why this could be a reason for Spence losing out here. But time will tell soon enough. Bottom line in Boxing (and all sports) money is the dictator, not sportsmanship. They are all chasing the biggest money. Titles/honour come 2nd. That's why Haye fought Bellew...it was a huge payday for what he thought was an easy fight before he took the top names on at heavyweight. Only his plan backfired.
Nah Hurd has that belt so it's not vacate anymore but he will definitely be ranked high enough to get a title shot pretty soon. I don't know if he would have got a beating but I was picking Spence to take the belt.
Before the fight was signed, Hearn expressed concerns about him being able to safely make 147 and said he would perform better at 154. Brook may have thought he could push himself hard in the gym and get the weight off, but perhaps he tried that and the weight just wasn't coming off.
If he fights Khan I will not be happy that would be a clear duck. Brook vs Spence is a better fighter and the winner has a good shot at unifying with Thurman down the line in a big money fight if built right. Khan is finished, Brook would stop him for sure.
Bullocks he will make weight for Khan or PAC, and I don't wanna hear nonsense about the money is right, the real reason is they are more winnable fights especially Khan.
