How many fights, if any, does the Old Mongoose lose against:

    Holmes
    Tate
    Tillis
    Dokes (x2)
    Coetzee
    Pinklon Thomas
    Carl Williams
    Bonecrusher Smith (x2)
    Johnny Du Plooy (x2)
    Lennox Lewis
    Bert Cooper, and
    a young Razor Ruddock?

Moore was the old mongoose. Ezzard Charles was the Cincinnati cobra.

Moore loses to Holmes and Lewis. Should beat the rest. Possible he drops an upset at some point. He was a remarkably consistent winner against non-great opponents.

Thanks for catching that. This was originally going to be an Ezzard Charles thread but I switched in Moore at the last second and forgot to proofread.

Did Moore have many notable wins at heavy weight? I thought he spent the best years of his career at light heavyweight?

Holmes and Lewis are the only clear ones for me.

Pinklon Thomas when he was 100% could be tough for most people I think but I wouldn't favor him over Moore.

That's actually a pretty stiff line up. I can see him losing a few to guys that you might not favour over him ordinarily. Guys like Cooper, du Plooy and Coetzee could really bang, and guys like Dokes (at their best) were impressively quick. Lewis and Holmes would be nasty.

Good calls. Coetzee would be interesting.

Besides a prime Holmes, who I think Moore at his best would beat I don't see anybody else on this list that would pose much of a threat against Moore.

Moore was a master at using an opponent's strengths against them.

Tate, Dokes, Thomas, Williams, and Ruddock weren't clever enough for me to see them lasting very long against Moore.

Cooper and Tillis were both durable and skilled, but neither had the gas tank and often shut down as fights progressed, which would play right into Moore's hands.

Lennox Lewis at this point in his career was too green and too vulnerable to counter rights to pose any major threat to Moore. A prime Lennox Lewis on the other hand with Manny in his corner would give Moore a tough fight that could go either way.

Smith had the power and durability to go rounds with Moore, but would get a boxing lesson and get stopped in the later rounds. Moore loved fighting big guys like Smith, since they were slow and easy to time.

i think some people are underestimating these 80's heavyweight some of them had serious skill and a lot of size on Archie they were just inconsistent. Drugs were big in those days and a lot of these guys decline goes hand in hand with drug use.

Dokes and Thomas would probably beat Archie, Dokes had some seriously quick hands for a heavyweight. Ruddock, Cooper and Smith had massive power more then anyone Archie fought even if they could be crude at times. Favor Holmes, Lennox, Dokes and Thomas the others I think Archie would win the Cooper fight could look like the Durelle fight.
