A war of words has erupted between Hall of Fame boxing legends. Roberto 'Hands of Stone' Duran has lashed out at Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. over the upcoming all-Mexican mega bout between Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and Saul "Canelo" Alvarez, which takes place on May 6th from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Duran says the Mexican legend should have protected his oldest son and never allowed him to go forward with the Canelo fight, scheduled to happen at a catch-weight of 164.5-pounds.

Duran fears for the safety of Chavez Jr. and believes that he not only has absolutely no chance of winning, but will suffer a big beating in the contest. He says Chavez Sr. should advise his son to withdraw and not go forward with this planned HBO Pay-Per-View bout. "Look I'm being frank here, and with all due respect to Chavez, and I will say it to Chavez's face, he does not know anything about boxing. I'm talking about the father, with the respect he deserves, I do not see how his son can beat Canelo. And if his son were to beat Canelo, then I would tell Canelo to retire becaue he's finished," Duran told ESPN Deportes. "Chavez, he knows what I'm saying, he do not know anything about boxing to beat Canelo. If I was Chavez's father, I would tell him not to go through with this fight."

I saw Chavez's last fight and it was very bad, and he was in the ring with a dead man (Dominik Britsch) And if he thinks that Canelo is easy, I see it ending badly. This has nothing to do with size, I do not see how [Chavez] can win it, so I apologize (to Chavez Sr)... and if he gets mad I do not care, if he does not want to talk to me anymore I do not care - but your son does not beat Canelo. I'm telling you, Robert Duran is telling you".

Duran is one of favourite fighters too watch, he had it all.
But come on, it's not like Junior is fighting for free. Not many fighters will pass on that type money.

Duran like most of us knows that Chavez Jr will be completely ruined at the agreed catchweight, Jr can't make SMW.

It's just a money making exercise with very little risk for Canelo but huge risk for a weight drained, dehydrated Jr.

I can't feel sorry for Chavez because he has fought outside of any real division since his defeat to Martinez. Those Brian Vera fights were shameful. He would come in at any weight he felt. I really want to see him destroyed more than any fighter in boxing because he has done nothing to earn respect besides come out of some Mariachi's sack and get put on Chavez Sr. I hope Canelo beats him to his knees.

OMG! Duran will smash Hearns' glass jaw all over the place, it's a mismatch, it's a ... oh.

Duran picking Canelo over GGG tells me that there's hope for Chavez yet.:aplastao:

Even El Pollo knows he can't beat Golovkin. El Pollo might be able to beat Chavez who has been inactive, out of shape, etc., I think something smells, if Chavez had a chance, El Pollo and Oscar would not take the chance, they saw Chavez' last fight and made the decision, however, Nacho Beristain could make a difference with a lot of discipline in camp, but the judges, referee, boxing commission, will all be there to help
El Pollo as needed, if needed. I will not buy such a fight................

Sure, but Canelo is 5'9.5" and Chavez Jr is no Tommy Hearns.

Canelo is 5'9.5 if he's wearing platform shoes.

    Cotto is 5'7 maybe.

OK but let's be fair, Canelo doesn't have his brushcut sticking up an extra 2 inches in this one.
