Golovkin is going to the hall of fame and will likely break Benard Hopkins record of consecutive world title defenses at middleweight.

He'll also be 35 years old on April 8. Past middleweight greats in Monzon and Hagler, who struggled a bit in their last fights called it quits before then. Golovkin will press on

Golovkin has an attacking style. Like Tyson, Marciano, or Jack Dempsey. This type of style burns out quickly and once you hit your mid 30's, that type of fighter is NEVER the same. The lower the weight class for this type of style, the quicker their prime passes. Its just the way boxing works. Once swarming attacker types lose their speed, they just become mere punchers. GGG isn't just a mere puncher, he has a nice jab to complement his attack, but it's clear he has slowed down over the years.

Last night he fought an excellent Daniel Jacobs. Hats off to Jacobs, he's an excellent boxer who was significantly younger, and faster. I think is the 2nd best middleweight on the planet, way ahead of Canelo. Jacobs, nearly 5 years younger than Golovkin is exactly the type of fighter who gives an aging star problems. He can move his feet quickly, he's got fast hands, he's smart, and oh yeah he can punch too! This was the reason Golovkin did not press him as hard as the fans felt he should. A skilled guy with faster hands could counter punch you...but with a 10-8 round in the bag, and some rounds close to call, Golovkin didn't risk much. If that wasn't enough, Jacobs refused to weight in, fueling speculation he was well over the light heavyweight limit for this match.

The result was a very close fight, and if not for the knockdown 2 point swing, the fight which was close would be more controversial.

If this fight happened 2- 3 years ago, Golovkin likely finishes Jacobs, but as they say in sports, that was then and this is now.

I hope Canelo finally fights GGG at age 35. He can not replicate the game plan of Jacobs. Not a chance. He'll get stopped.

For the future, I think Golovkin should find a new trainer, and work on his countering skills, which were excellent as an amateur, and his footwork to cut off the ring. That and do not pick a taller, longer, much younger and faster opponent with world class skills or the " 0 " might go.

Last night proves Pavlik would've sparked GGG clean out.

The 1-2 down the pipe. Good night and good luck.

Please. Pavilk lost to Martinez when he was 28, and Martinez was 35.

Let them fight soon at 160 or 168, GGG would whip Pavlik, who can not box and move like Jacobs.

Golovkin would wreck Pavlik, and I like Pavlik.

No one has ever seriously hurt GGG. What's Pavlik going to do, outbox him?

Pre-alcohol-issues Pavlik would have been a good fight for GGG, but Pavlik doesn't have the skill set to beat GGG.

Martinez would have peeled back GGGs cap as well.

GGG fights in the worst MW division of all time and got just a gift dec against one of the weakest guys in it. I predicted GGG to smash Jacobs to bit because he is nothing special. But he still done enough to win last night.
All GGG did was stalk and land the odd hit now and then. Jacobs made him miss and touched him up for 80% of 11 rounds.
Thats out boxing a guy.. GGG was out boxed .
Hopkins would have ripped this hype job apart.

I'm sensing you might be biased on the subject of GGG.

I liked Pavlik quite a bit, but he doesn't have the tool kit to beat GGG. He would get battered into oblivion.

    Re-read the title Dino.

    Haters MUST accept.

If GGG fights guy like Jacobs when he's 37 or 38, you might be happy.

Pavlik has the exact tool kit required to beat GGG.

Long range jab and right hand followed by an uppercut delivered with extreme power.

Brook and Jacobs showed this is the blue print to beat GGG. Pavlik was better than both those guys. Taylor was also a lot better than Jacobs.
If that had been Pavlik in there last night , GGG wouldve been counted out for the FULL 10 count.

GGG never battered anybody like Pavlik in his entire life. Im going off empirical evidence . You're going off fanboi driven opinion. Your opinion is simply not realistic.

Pavlik would get killed. He can't move, can't box, and is not going to win a shoot-out with someone who has never been put down in like 387 fights (amateur and pro).

Love Pavlik, but he's getting KO'd.

Jacobs survived tonight because he changed his tactics to stick-and-move and used speed and went southpaw.

Pavlik doesn't have enough movement or speed to hold off GGG.

My opinion is better than yours will ever be, I'm sure of that.

Its obvious you can't handle the truth! Long term hate is not good for the body, mind or soul. At least try to be reasonable when backing up the view you must present.

I do not see one fanboy thinking GGG looked great last night. He has aged, so it seems one side can accept the truth, but haters like you can not.

Which is why Martinez spent his time ducking Golovkin right? :calimero1:

Oh man, I can taste Dino's bitter gall from here. Needless to say this opinion is worthless ^

    :risas3::risas3::risas3:

GTFOH you useless troll. Jacobs is the consensus #2 and showed that he is a hell of a fighter.

    GGG > Hopkins :bananaride
