Possibly but I think it has much more to do with the opponent. Golovkin has had a static upper body for years now, a tall fast fighter with resilience was able to take advantage of it over the course of 12 rounds.

 

He's definitely slowing down but not significant enough to label him "shot". It's a combination of Golovkin slowing, being overrated, Jacobs underrated, and Jacobs fighting his ass off.

Say what you will, Golovkin is one of my favorites, but I think he lost.

Now here come the excuses for getting beat up and outboxed. Jacobs was supposed to be another ko victim. Jacobs is a huge step up in class for ggg and that right there says alot. Feasting on bums eventually catches up with you.

GGG just best the best out there at 160, who happened to be 30, in his absolute prime, and had the type of style and speed to give him fits. Oh, Jacobs can hit too. GGG didn't open up because he thought he was in the lead, and Jacobs had faster hands and could counter. Jacob's south paw stance seemed to bother GGG a tad.

I think GGG will look better in his next boxing match. He should however find a new trainer. One that understands how to work off GGG's quality jab, and to cut off the ring better, setting his feet to deliver that vicious body shot.

I think so too. I mean it was only a matter of time given his age.

I think he's past his prime but I think he'll be withering away slower than most fighters if he has the right match ups so he doesn't end up punch drunk. Elite fighter - 2 relative tune ups - elite fighters - 2 relative tune ups <- this kind of schedule until he's 40 and he should be alright. I can see him getting top level wins for a long time, he's still a stylistic nightmare for many boxers even if he gets slower and slower, but I can also see him losing inevitably to some fast boxer with a jab.

I think when everything will be said and done he'll have a Hopkins-style resume where a lot of his biggest wins will happen past his prime and at old age, but he'll also have losses.

Won't happen unfortunately. He seems to have the kind of relationship with Abel Sanchez that he can't just get out of. He'll be stuck with Abel for life. It's the Roach-Pacman type of thing.
