GGG KO streak is over. It was an amazing run to be sure. A big part of his draw was the aura Tyson style. Boxing fans are fickle as F. I'm sure many were dissatisfied with his performance. I checked the LA times sport section. There was a small paragraph on page 7 about the fight. Not even a photo. Boxing is just so fringe now. I'm guessing the fight did 150-200k PPV. Outside of Canelo I don't see GGG being on PPV again. Will he able to sell out 20k arenas? Who else is there at 160 that could help him sell?
Oscar helped sell this fight and GGGift lays an egg If it doesn't do over 200k than no one can help him. HBO could be out of the picture next year
Let's stop with the Tyson aura comparison. Tyson was knocking guys out twice his size in under 3 rounds. The running joke was his fights weren't worth it because they were over so fast. Ggg is an exciting fighter no doubt but he breaks his fighters down as opposed to straight knocking them the f out like Tyson did. To top it off ggg was nowhere near the draw Tyson was. He was never much of a draw to begin with so no I don't think his draw hurts him much.
No way. Now there will be a certain group of people who think his future challengers will have more of a shot to beat him. Lol! Poor souls... He'll have Hopkins defense record by years end
I bought the ppv and loved it. The main event was more exciting than any ppv I've seen in recent years. I don't see why GGG should sell any less because of it.
Well there are still plenty of boxing fans who will tune into boxing as seen by Thurman v Garcia numbers but with re to PPV the public are voting on their feet with this, maybe cause it ends up on you tube the day after is reason enough. Don't expect the number to be big cause even Ward v Kovalev which was one of the most meaningful fights in many years didn't do much on PPV I believe,300.000 seems to be banded about as a success nowadays.
Nature of the beast,at his age and his reputation there's no way he could rebuild not that I think he'd do that anyway.
I think he is even more popular now because he has the 'potential to lose'. People that love and hate him will watch. It's kind of like how people waited for Floyd to lose but never did. He also has a huge international following. Let's see if he fights and beats BJS. He has been fighting good fighters the last 2 years except for wade... so I think he is more known in general
I disagree. I think that people are going to be even more excited to see GGG next time out. Everyone wants to see if it was a fluke night, if he was declined, and if his power is still as fearsome as before.
