Ward painted a masterpiece in this fight. His ability to create punching angles at such a close range is just pure greatness. Wards relentless body blows really took a toll on the great Kovalev and really drained his punching power. I think it's hard for casual fans and mma fans to appreciate and score these punches. I've watched this bout several times and it was a classic effort between both fighters, the only thing that I hate about this fight is listening to that ridiculous Harold Letterman he is an absolute tool and has a very low boxing IQ.
Harold Letterman did not provide commentary on the fight. Nor did Ward really do much body work. Conclusion: Thread Starter has not seen the fight.
C'mon no need to troll this thread. Kovalev fought well on the outside and Ward was awesome inside, great fight. Hope there is a rematch.
Exactly. Kovalev stiffed most of his inside work by headlocking him and clinching and then overpowering him and pushing him to the ropes. Ward didn't have nearly as much success on the inside like he did against Froch and Kessler.
Well me personally I didn't agree then and still dont agree now with that 116-111 Lederman scorecard... If that's what we are talking bout here.
i was actually watching it with a buddy and noted the work ward was doing and i said "it might be hard for them to see it all..the body work ward is doing" and literally a second or two later it was either max or roy that pointed it out.......agree about lederman...it was a great fight though..kovalev shouldnt be ashamed....
After eating jabs, he would duck inside, grab his arm, and tap his body a few times. Kovalev did more body work truth be told.
Ward's "body work" is the typical, arm punch the body from the clinch work, you only notice when fighter's are shut out offensively. It's Tex Cobb garbage offense, not really good scoring blows that should make up for a guy getting jabbed all over the ring. And I maintain, Kovalev actually got more solid body blows in.
How anybody could not see the body work done by Ward in that fight is beyond me. They must literally be blinded by bias. The majority of Ward's success was to the body.
How come nobody sees the body work done by Cobb in this fight. Are they blind? Look at all those times, Cobb's touches his body, man...great body work. Cobb got raw deal. He boxed a masterpiece. This content is protected
Nobody talks about all the great body work Briggs did against Vitali. Briggs is an animal in the clinch, hammering those ribs. Briggs was robbed, he boxed a masterpiece on the inside. This content is protected
