Andre Ward's inside body work on Kovalev

Ward did throw a good amount of body shots but Kovalev did too. Where Ward edged it inside, Kovalev easily won it at range.

While I think Krusher won, Ward did well to recover from the KD and change the aspect of the fight to something he was more comfortable with.

No need for the dig at MMA fans. They generally have a greater appreciation for clinchwork then do most pure boxing fans. They are more used to seeing it and are a bit more educated on the positioning of a clinch than many boxing fans.

 

Kovalev is a great boxer from range, great jab, punches well from different angles, generates great power from every position. let me guess you think ward actually won that fight? looool.

there was no finesse to ward's work, he was outjabbed, and couldnt get out the way of it, he couldnt duck the 1-2. he was practically reduced to throwing left hooks and body punches.

ward isnt as special or as smart as his fans make him out to be. hes hardly a floyd mayweather in the ring. and he lost by 3-4 rounds. although he did show good heart and strong resolve, fighting spirit.

Yes, ward did some body works on kovalev and they did have some toll on kov in the late rounds. But those body works are not clean at best, they are usually off a clinch after a ward low head attack, arguably not enough to win him any of the rounds clearly.
To see an effective clean body works, look no further than your nickname sweetpea, for a supposely slick boxer, light puncher defensive master, Whitaker is one of the sickest body puncher there is. They are clean, sharp and great to watch.

 

I wouldn't go that far with Ward. The Kovalev fight was a massive task for him to overcome , he's nigh on impossible to get to , then you have the power to worry about on top of it.
He was forced to bring it to Kovalev , to fight his fight and still managed to get in close and land a better variety of work. .
All Krusher wanted to so is hold so he could go back to his comfort zone.
What Ward done required an extreme level of talent that even the top fully fledged LHWs don't have.

Ive never argued Ward as the clear winner. Imo he won more because of what Kovalev didn't do more than what he done himself. Krusher just wasn't urgent enough , he could have done more.

This is why Ward is riling him up at the moment . He wants him to be more aggressive in the rematch so he doesn't have a mountain to climb over a second time.
