Well notice I said PRIME Calzaghe. And it doesn't get much quicker and slicker than that! He would have been too much for them imo.

He had serious trouble with a 43 year old Hopkins who only had gas for six rounds of the fight. Ward is younger and fresher, and while Ward doesn't hit as hard as the Hopkins that Calzaghe fought, he is far to slick, and crafty to be out boxed by the Welsh Slapper. Ward wins by comfy decision.

That was also Joe's first fight at LHW and don't forget he was in the twilight of his career himself. One of Calzaghe's best attributes was his adaptability and I am sure he would find a way to get to Ward. You mention 43 year old Hopkins like he wasn't one of the best fighters in the world at that point. It's a pick'em fight.

Ward got demolished by a brawler, he was also shown up by a shoe salesman early in his career and went life and death with a shop worn Calzaghe victim.
Safe to say the brittle handed, old bloated shot to pieces Joe that beat prime Hopkins would batter Ward.

This is always a fun little argument. "Hopkins was 43 doe!" And Calzaghe was a fresh young buck when he fought him?! What was he 37-38?? And didn't 'THE ALIEN' Bernard go on to win more championships while bragging every chance he got that he was "A different breed and timeless." ?

And this thread is about PRIME JOE against the Super Six. And prime Joe would abuse Ward so bad that Al Sharpton would be at the scene of the crime the next ****ing day.

Joe Calzaghe UD 118-110 over Ward and wins the Super Six. Also stops Froch by towel throw in. Too fast and too much volume

Prime Calzaghe? You mean the guy who Kessler was giving work to for the first half of their fight? I don't think Calzaghe would have beaten either Ward, or Dirrell. He was scared to fight Dawson, so he retired after fighting two old men.

I mentioned 43 year old Hopkins, because a prime Ward was more capable of handling quick, slick guys, than the unathletic 40 plus year old light heavyweight Hopkins was, even though Hops was still good at that age.

No Kessler was pretty much right before Bernard "I'd NEVER let a white boy beat me!!" Hopkins. And "giving work to in the first half" lol! Dude Calzaghe ended up dominating the dog **** out of him. I'd say prime Calzaghe was when he Ghetto Gagged Lacy or shortly before that.

Ward was NEVER as fast as Joe nor did he ever have the endurance. The volume would have been too much for Mr Frohawk no matter how much he tried to be a huggy bear

You guys get caught up in your insecurity as Calzaghe fans. Calzaghe got a gift decision against a Hopkins that only had gas for six and a half rounds. My point was that, Ward in his prime, was much more capable of handling slick, quick guys, than a 43 year old, unathletic and slow Hopkins. A prime Calzaghe doesn't beat a prime Ward, a Prime Hopkins, Golovkin, prime Chad Dawson, and he would get destroyed by a prime Jones Jr. Would Calzaghe have won the Super 6? No, he wouldn't even have entered it, because it meant, he would have had to fight some young prime guys like Ward, Dirrell, and Froch.

Dude... just stop. Lol! Stop it. Hopkins got out boxed fair and square and nobody beat Joe or came close to it. Especially when he was in his early 30's. You want to see a "Gift"?? Watch your boy Wards last fight. Want to see "insecurity"?? Look at how Ward is handling rematch questions ;)

I know that a lot of Ward fans like to paint out Hopkins wasn't prime but when you examine things and Hopkins wasn't beating up blown up WW, his best wins came post Calzaghe. He was also a tactician, his boxing improved with age due to the way he fought, when he fought Joe he peaked, physically he kept himself optimum conditioning, but the mind was working amazingly well. A young Hopkins even against this shot Calzaghe in Hopkins backyard would have steam rolled Hop as his tactics wouldn't have been the same, Hopkins bought the best possible version of himself with a better than perfect game plan and still only won 3 rounds.

Didn't Calzaghe vs Kessler set the record for lowest rated HBO boxing show ever?

Ward, the Gold medalist, was more skilled than Calzaghe, and has more heart than the cowardly lion of Wales ever had. Chad Dawson ran Calzaghe into retirement, and high nights with the white rhino. Ward ran into Krusher Kovalev, rather than retiring. That says it all right there.
