I think he means that because both were near their primes, undefeated and top p4p fighters

Hopkins age is irrelevant until he actually looks and fights like an old man. the mere fact he continued at the top level for nearly a decade later, only furthers my point.

No in 2004 (years before even the Calzaghe fight) he was outworked by Jermain Taylor. Late 90s Hopkins beats Taylor comfortably. Old Hopkins gassed constantly.

 

So he lost a fight or two before. I guess he....sucked then? Does that apply even more to all those he beat AFTER losing to taylor? So Kov won 2 titles from some old man who really wasn't that good. And yet, that makes Kovalev really good? His win over Hopkins is his best to date you realize.

His best win is completely destroying Pascal. Never before has Pascal looked so helpless and ineffective. He also won the Ward/Kovalev fight on over 75 percent of media cards. To imply that Kovalev isn't operating at a historical level is ignorant.

And yes Kovalev shut out Hopkins with ease. And that was made possible in large part because Hopkins was 50 ****ing years old! The man was almost 50 years old damn it.

Hopkins wasn't 50 when he fought Joe C. Are you losing track of where this came from? About Pascal, it was a good win by Kov, but Pascal was beaten by Hopkins once prior to Kov's win over him.

Hopkins was looking old against Jermain Taylor. Not pulling the trigger, very low output, and expecting to win rounds landing 4 or less punches. Though he is an ATG, found a way to stay relevant while past his best.

 

He was 43 which is way different than being 33. Do you have any idea how much stamina, speed, reflexes, etc. you have lost by the time you are 43 years old? 43 years old FFS. That's old for boxing.
