Hardest one pun h bear...next dempsey..then Louis..then Marciano..then. Shavers...if you put Louis and Dempsey in front of a heavy bag at middle distance the power would be impressive...put foreman ...bear...shavers at middle distance with no telegraphing less impressive...have Louis swing his punches he'd get more power but its a swing not a punch thanks
1- Rocky Marciano 2- George Foreman 3- Sonny Liston 4- Joe Louis 5- Jack Dempsey 6- Wladimir Klitschko 7- Mike Tyson Based on just raw power, Baer, Shavers and Tua deserve some respect in their respective eras
Honorable mention: Tyson was harder puncher than wladimir klitschko by F. Botha's opinion. Marciano,Dempsey and Louis fought in very different than Tyson or Klitschko. Foreman ? i don't know only one one remarkable one punch ko by George.
1. Sonny Liston 2. George Foreman 3. Joe Louis 4. Mike Tyson 5. Jack Dempsey 6. Wladmir Klitschko 7. Rocky Marciano All hard hitters. Rocky hit extremely hard every punch he threw and was veryu consistent power wise. Hard time choosing out of Liston and Foreman. At the end of the day it's all guesswork. I'd have Shavers above all of them and Lewis in the first half of the list and don't believe the list covers the "premier punchers of their respective era's". Shavers was the hardest hitter of his even above Foreman.
These threads are being created as a George Foreman appreciation group. We could have one that says " Which dark skinned heavyweight looked great in red white and blue trunks"? Answer GEORGE FOREMAN yay !!
1. Sonny Liston 2. George Foreman 3. Jack Dempsey 4. Wlad 5. Marciano 6. Louis 7. Tyson 1 & 2 are a lock out of the fighters you name. I think for Louis & Tyson it was definitely technique over pure punching power.
1. Tyson - brain scrambled fighters with glancing blows, knocked more men down or out with one punch than any of the other heavyweights on the list. Had that rare combination of heavy handedness, speed, timing and technique, and threw every punch with bad intentions. Undisputedly number one in my book. 2. Wlad - the hugest man on the list and one who was capable of delivering crippling single blows with his great mix of technique, accuracy, explosiveness and leverage. He tended not to go all out on his punches, preferring to throw shots he knew he could rein in if need be, to minimise his chance of getting countered, but when he went all out it was a scary sight. 3. Foreman - the second biggest man on the list, and probably the most naturally heavy handed. What he lacked in speed and technique he made up for in thudding, concussive power. 4. Liston - similar to Foreman though a mite slower and smaller. 5. Marciano/Louis/Dempsey - hard to put these in any specific order. They were all capable of delivering a similar level of knockout power but achieved it in different ways. Marciano had the wind-up and heavy hands, Dempsey the speed and savagery, Louis the speed, technique and precision. If forced to choose I'd rank them in the order I mentioned them.
Beautiful story. Then you realize Tyson stated George Foreman was a bigger puncher than him. Wladimir fought Everett "Big Foot" Martin Twice and never knocked him down or hurt him. Foreman knocked down Martin ( a prime version) with one punch. 1Shavers/Foreman 2 Wladmir K since he actually knocked out heavyweights and not 170 pounders. 3 Louis did knock out some modern sized heavyweights. 4. Liston was a 6'0 210 pound guy. The only 2 heavyweights I can think of that he knocked out were Cleveland Williams and Chuck Wepner. 5 Dempey is overrated and so was the era he fought in but he did knock out a few guys who could be considered modern sized heavyweights. ( Even though the gloves were smaller back then). 6 Marciano shouldn't even be on the list. Each of these other guys knocked out at least a few modern sized heavyweights and Marciano only knocked out 170 to 190 guys.
