Was De valle as skilled as Tarver? And most importantly WHEN did he fight De valle? When Jones fought De valle he was at or very close to his super human best. He very rarely got hit with a clean shot and especially a power clean shot. So he really wasn't tested. But once he slowed a little, and the shots started landing cleanly is when his chin issues started showing up.

    Lewis and Wlad.

Lewis actually had a very good chin. He was just fighting in an era of hellacious punchers and happened to get caught twice, once against a guy he really didn't take seriously. Aside from that he fought the who's who of power punchers in the division and never even hit the canvas.

Wlad's chin is nowhere near as bad as advertised. His stoppages and knock downs mostly came from stamina issues and an overdeveloped panic reflex that saw him fall apart mentally and defensively when he was hurt. The only time you could say he was genuinely blasted out was versus Corrie Sanders, who's a massive puncher. Even then Wlad kept getting up till the referee waved it off. He's never to my knowledge been completely blasted out or laid out on the canvas unable to move.

What is your view on the Keith Mullings fight? Terry Norris was stopped by Mullings who had about 8 Knockouts in his brief career. That was around `97 but I don't believe Norris was that old at the time. He was the definition of Chinny.

He was slower in the first tarver fight than the second and took plenty of shots, ruiz caught him quite a few times as well. tarver KO'd him legitimately but he came back too fast against johnson and it was clear as day something was wrong especially in hindsight because he looked more shot vs johnson even before the KO than he would for another few years. His legs looked like they were stuck in mud he had bad coordination and reflexes for that fight(because he hadnt recovered), he got KO'd again when his brain hadnt healed, too close to the first KO loss to tarver and from then on his punch resistance was GONE after the 2nd tarver fight he didnt react to getting hit like a chinny fighter, he reacted like a DAMAGED fighter. notice how after the johnson KO he was rarely knocked down to get back up like many chinny fighters but mostly just out cold for minutes in a sickening way. After the second back to back ko loss to johnson he took a year off and got his legs and alot of his speed/reflexes back for the tarver rubber match but his punch resistance was gone for good. After that he was like a ticking time bomb against any decent fighter where he would for the most part not get hurt but all of a sudden just go to sleep like someone pulled the plug.

You don't know what you're talking about. Give it up.
You cant take take this punch two weight classes above where you first won a title and not have a chin.

With Barney Ross, arguably the most worthy hero boxing has ever produced to my mind, Jowcol. A true gent against pretty steep odds.

His chin just eroded very quickly. Mostly due to the back to back KO losses. Emanuel steward said it as well. After those losses he was clearly damaged to the point where he could just go straight to sleep at any point. thats not chinny. chinny is someone who gets knocked down easily and often and can be KO'd easier than other fighters. think patterson or moorer or gamboa, norris khan. a chinny fighter generally gets knocked down or hurt more often than KO'd cold and is usually knocked down several times before he is stopped. roy is just damaged

i sparred him. never dropped him but he was dropped often in sparring when he was starting.
then he blasted you like a bully because he didn't have the maturity to understand that his getting fkin dropped
was more his fault than the guy that dropped him.
    crummy balance.
had he been with another trainer he would have gone farther

Right. The way he performed post Tarver doesn't represent what his chin was earlier in his career. He absolutely was tested in his prime. The punch Tarver landed would've knocked out almost anyone. It irritates me when I see guys like Michael Moorer, or worse yet, Hearns, picked to knock him out in his prime.

Wlad was knocked out by Sanders because of stamina? He was knocked down 2 or 3 times in the first round. He sure has bad stamina then to get tired in the first. Corrie Sanders is a massive puncher? Weird since the only person he ever knocked out was Wlad.

Davaryll Williamson knocked him down with one punch early in the first. Brewster knocked him out in the 5th or so. Sam Peter constantly knocked Wlad down. Steve Panell a bum knocked Wlad down with 1 punch in the first. Various other fighters hurt him with one punch. He would be knocked out more if he didn't run like a scared woman and because of the opposition he fought.

Apart from being dropped twice, there were many times he was buzzed but they boxers did not capitalize on it. Ruddock was damaged goods, Rahman and Mccall got to that face, Vitali was not really much of a puncher, any fighter who lands flush on Lenni's face and fails to get him out of there should hang his head in shame.

No point in even bringing up the Grandpa Tyson that Lewis faced. Tua is such a lazy ****, very easy to outbox. Lewis faced the HIV faded Morrison.

I give him credit for atleast having the guts to get in there with punchers unlike Chicken Bowe, he is definately an all time great for having achieved all that he did with his fighting heart, boxing iq, boxing talent, skills inspite of his chinny handicape but make no mistake, 2 single shot ko's to D level fighters where you have not taken any punishment and were not sucker punched means you are chinny.

Completely agree. The Hagler loss combined with fighting bigger men was catching up with him for sure by the time Barkley came around. He'd gone life and death with Roldan the fight before and you could see the wear and tear imo. Once declining he was most vulnerable to brawlers and sluggers as stated by ES a couple of times. ES actually picked Hearns to beat Hill based on his style even tho he was no longer in his corner. Hearns looked reasonably good against Barkley before the turn of events but Iran had average defense. Hearns offense remained quite impressive for a long long time.

Yes the offense remained good...but the punch resistance started to erode. It happens...in a long career, fighting the best competition.

I agree with you on his balance at least early in fights. I followed his career and I saw him take big shots without blinking in later rounds. As it was he went pretty damn far being a 3 division champion. He did win the Welterweight Title had a very young age. He was a seek and destroy fighter his whole career but if he was that chinny he would have been stopped more than a few times.
