This is true. Though can you think of any lineal status that has been drug through the mud more than the 160 pound lineal championship in recent years? First Martinez was stripped of his title due to Mexican corruption. Then he won his title back and became lineal. Then Murray was robbed against Sergio keeping the lineal title in the wrong hands. Then Martinez lost to Cotto with 1 leg handing over lineage to Cotto. Meanwhile, Cotto defends his lineal title by fighting 2nd rate contenders and draining them down to below the MW limit. Meanwhile, Golovkin stops the rightful lineal champ (Murray), but the actual lineage goes to Canelo when he beats up blown WW Miguel Cotto. Then Canelo, defends his titles against 2nd rate contenders at 155. He ducks his mandatory GGG and gets stripped of his alphabet title. Yet he keeps his lineal championship.

At this point somebody ought to just take the mythical lineal 160 pound title to the trash can. Then pour some gas on the title and pis all over it.

The lineal title is not tangible. It has some meaning when you recognize it for what it is. A way to try and replace/supplement the oversaturation of alphabet titles with a non tangible "the man" status.

Then you don't understand the concept of what it actually means to be a "lineal" champion.

There is no such thing as "titlist" defenses. You start your title defenses the minute you become the lineal champion.

Not the same and Marvin was and is still above GGG by a mile in my personal view.

Not true because lineal is not an actual tangible entity. It doesn't actually exist. A belt is a physical thing.

So Hearns, Mugabi, Roldan, Sibson, Minter, Hamsho and Duran are inferior defences than who Triple G's defended against.

I get that but the fact remains that it is an imaginary title with no belt, no sanctioning body, no rankings, no contenders and no rules, which, as was seen on this board in a previous thread, simply gives license to agenda driven fanboys to make them up as they go along to suit their agenda.

For me, it is very simple, a fighter cannot justifiably be claimed to be "the man" in a division when he has never fought a fight at the proper weight, gave up his WBC belt rather than defend it against the real "man", moved down saying he "wasn't a middleweight" and seems to have little intention of fighting there any time soon as he is taking part in an endless series of catchweight money fights.

Was he implying that Golovkin's opposition was tougher than Hagler's? I don't think he was. It's true that Golovkin has now had a longer reign in calendar days than Marvin Hagler.

I agree with that first paragraph completely. To me the solution to make all this go away is to have 1 world championship belt and it mandatory to defend at the full limit. That way there is no extra curricular garbage.

Holy ****, how high some put past greats far above what they were. Wtf, you sure ggg wouldn't have to go through dw, Parker, fury and Aj, might be able to compare him to Eubank right.

Lol, how the **** did Hagler get so great?? His greatest wins were against ww's and he LOST to a couple journeymen in his PRIME, then a couple very lucky decisions, making up for him being ignored for so long.

First decade he was so so, now he's the greatest fighter ever. Past fighters are always looked at with wicked rose tinted goggles.

the ibo belt is still meaningless. any clown can hold an ibo belt. marvin haglers sparring partner's sparring partners brother could win one.

his reign began with his first major belt.

This. When and if he beats BJS he can start counting afterward.
