Will crolla now stop ducking flannagan?

Frank Warren just doesn't know how to market a fighter. Whether you like Hearn or not, he's good at that side of the business and has turned people like Crolla and Bellew into big draws.

Look at the profile of Flanagan and also of BJS. They are both unknowns and to be honest have both been horribly mismanaged. Warren just can't raise a profile to save his life. I blame him a lot for Calzaghe's body of work not being what it should have.

 

The discussion on this thread pretty much sums up what I've said all along.

There was no realistic time in the last two years where the fight could have happened.

I would like to see it now. However, career wise the WBO belt would do nothing for Crolla as he would become a laughing stock if he claimed to be world lightweight champion after losing convincingly to Linares. Ergo, if the fight does take place it would be for the money alone and it's up to Frank to make it worthwhile. There is no offer on the table at the present time that would do so.

Nobody is ducking anybody and the only people who claim otherwise are the moronic football casuals who think this boxing match would be City v United in the champions league final.

 

Look at what Hearn has said. He's saying Crolla deserves £1m purse for the fight. Based on what? How many domestic Lightweights do you know who warrant £1m purses?

 

I think what his saying is the fight generates enough revenue to pay crolla £1 million. What that leaves Flanagan with who knows but it's clear they see crolla as the A side deserving a huge majority split.

 

Without having the details of what each of them have earned for their previous fights or what they think this one can gross it's difficult to comment. But Crolla (and indeed Flanagan) is not simply a domestic lightweight, he's a former world champ who has been in with some of the best at every level and is still top ten ranked.

However, as I said above, Crolla really has very little to gain from this fight. Hence if Warren really wants to make it that badly and is not just posturing, he needs to make it worth his while.

 

Linares beats Turbo wherever the fight is, it could be in his front room with Warren as ref and he'd still lose.

 

Im a fan of both fighters, and obviously want to see this but just dont think you can market it on the back of 2 back to back defeats where Crolla was completely outclassed and out of his depth.

Some serious nonsense gets said about Flanagan too, I think 8k have sold two weeks out from fight night is pretty solid, now its not the 15k Crolla got at the weekend, but Crolla didnt have that sort of following until a lot of reds jumped on the bandwagon when he won a world title and had the slab dropped on his head.

 

I agree partly, although I don't think anybody wanted to see a Linaries rematch so a Flanagan fight on April 8th instead would not have been critizised IMO.

 

Nobody is ducking anybody in the scenario, Crolla fought a better guy 2x in a row in Linares.

 

Probably not and don't get me wrong, I would like to see this fight from a perspective of purely local interest.

 

I agree with you but I think a large part of Hearn being able to build fighters up more comes down to the Sky contract. There was an excellent interview with Andy Lee recently where he slated Sky shows and their commentary. He said the guys at most Sky shows aren't boxing fans but are just Sky Sports fans which I think is pretty bang on. Maybe this BT deal will help raise the profile of some of Warren's guys but who knows

 

It's not a duck, Flanagan is worth no money because of Warren's horrendous promoting of him.

Hearn and Crolla have been waiting for Flanagan's profile to build to make that fight worthwhile in a Money sense but it just hasn't happened. You can't accuse Crolla of ducking anybody the man just fought Barosso who everyone said he would duck and then Linares twice

 

Your right it's the Sky contract, I don't think Eddy Hearn is a great matchmaker. The only guys who I give him credit for building are Crolla and Bellew, AJ was gunna be a star no matter who he was with.

With that being said Warren is basically finished, he has a good prospect in Anthony yarde he had two title holders in Saunders and Flanagan but he didn't even do anything with them.

 

I'm not sure you can say a promoters finished when he's just won a deal with a major tv network.

If Hearn didnt have the sky contract i highly doubt he'd be in the position he is now.

Platform is a massive part of the promoting game

 

I don't believe that for one second. People buy tickets to watch boxing live and are not even fans of the sport? No way.

Even if one was to believe that true Andy Lee wouldn't be complaining if those same fans were buying tickets to watch him fight.
