Signed a management deal with Haymon. Bit pointless that was. An awful fight against Malik Scott followed by a punchbag exhibition against Dave Allen. I'm guessing Hearn expected him to set the Earth on fire with KOs and drum up interest in a fight with Joshua. In the end casual fans were probably turned off by him. Still kinda wanted to see him school Whyte but I guess he'll now go the WBC route.
There's been an interview recently where Hearn actually said that he wasn't a Matchroom fighter officially and in fact it was just a case of Ortiz's management company had asked him to lineup a couple of fights for him while they decided long term what to do. I don't know what Ortiz's team are expecting Haymon to do for him
Maybe Ortiz felt Hearn didn't really have his best interests at heart and never intend to eventually match him up with Matchroom's Starman, Joshua?
It's a shame; I read a few months ago that Ortiz is in line for a shot at AJ v Wlad winner due to his #1 WBA rank. Would have been good to have him on the Wembley card to get his name out there and, assuming AJ wins, start promoting the AJ Ortiz fight!
Wilder will never fight Ortiz, only winos from the alley. Wilder has had 5 voluntary fights in a row, I think that is a record. WBC always protecting Wilder. WBC has made Stiverne WBC mandatory without Stiverne fighting anyone, looked really bad in his last fight, but still too dangerous for Wilder......................who can Wilder fight? Stievere, Nichols, perhaps fight someone who has been retired for 20 years...................
Kind of feel for the guy in a way even though he was a drugs cheat. I mean this guy is super talented and could cause any heavyweight big problems but he's constantly denied his big shot because he's not very marketable. His best bet is for the WBA to force his mandatory shot against AJ/Wlad winner.
