WBO super featherweight champion Vasyl Lomachenko (7-1, 5 KOs) was more than ready to fire when he was informed of the recent comments that were made by WBC lightweight champion Mikey Garcia (36-0, 30 KOs). Last week, Garcia spoke with Brian Campbell of CBS Sports and explained why he wasn't impressed with Lomachenko's accomplishments and felt the two-time Olympic gold medal winner was getting way too much hype. Garcia explained that he beat Orlando Salido, who gave Lomachenko his only career defeat. And he discussed how he knocked out Roman Martinez in 2014, and Lomachenko was getting a lot of praise for knocking out Martinez two years later.
He got beat by an experienced, rugged fighter [Orlando Salido] and after that, he has improved a lot,” Garcia said. “He has a lot of credibility. But even at that, he’s only doing stuff that I already did three, four years ago. “He couldn’t beat Salido, who I completely dominated. He wins his second world title, a title I had vacated that ends up going back to Rocky Martinez, the guy who I had previously knocked out. Then Vasyl Lomachenko knocks him out and all of a sudden he’s this greatest star because of victories that I already accomplished? Well, I don’t give him credit for that.” Both Lomachenko and Garcia are recognized as being two of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the sport. Lomachenko also spoke with Brian Campbell and not only explained why he wasn't impressed with Garcia's wins, but he also challenged Garcia to stay put at 135-pounds so they can get in the ring and settle their war of words the old fashioned way.

“Let’s talk about that. I read that interview when he was talking about that he destroyed Salido,” Lomachenko told Campbell. “I especially looked at that bout and he got lucky because he broke his nose. After the fourth or fifth round, Salido had already gotten to him and was ready to destroy.”

If we want to talk about Rocky Martinez, let me ask you: Who was on the floor from Rocky Martinez? Yes, [Garcia] got a lucky punch and knocked him out in the eighth round, which I did in the fifth round. So we can talk about that as much as we can but if he wants to get my attention and he’s going to be staying at the 135, I’m going to come up at 135 too. “If, right now, people are talking more about me, with me being the foreigner in this country, and not talking about him, that’s not a problem. We can meet in a few fights to find out who is better.”

I like how Loma talks. This guy is a breath of fresh air. Because you know with him its not just talk, he really means it.

Mikey vs Loma is a future super fight.

Do you guys think that Mikey will stay at 135 the next 18 months?

I'm not sure, I think he'll move to 140 at the end of the year, like he said. He wont duck Loma, just this f×××××× marinating business, that I hate cuz it screws us real boxing fans.

I think Loma has a granite chin, he hasn't been hit that much, but I have seen him get hit by flush shots and he didn't even blink. I also don't see Mikey being a dog like Salido to take the fight on the inside and beat him up. That being said Mikey is truly a special talent, I don't see him winning, but if he pulled it off I wouldn't be that surprised.

I'm 100% sure that this is the best fight in boxing right now. Better than Kovalev-Ward and Canelo-GGG.

I hope we're not gonna have to wait until both are in their mid 30s.

Please dont move up Mikey !!! I know you wanna kick Loma's a**.

Dont you f****** move up. Stay at 135 and finish Lomachenko if you're annoyed with all the talk about him.

Great fight!! Does anyone know if Mikey struggles to make weight at 135? He looks healthy. Anyway...not sure if top rank would make it happen after Mikeys lawsuit against them :(

STFU Mickey! I haven't forgiven you for slandering my name, saying you slapped me around in the gym:ggg
Now you talk trash about Lomachenko? You do know you did better with common opponents is because you are naturally bigger!!
I hope you stay put at 135. Lomachenko by UD.

Arum will put Loma against anyone. This guy, like GGG , like Kovalev, is not "milkeble". The bigger the fights and the earlier, the best thing that can happen for his carrer. And old Bob knows it. And I think he trusts Lomachenko 1000% if Loma will say "give me the Garcia fight".

But how will Richard Schaeffer react? I have a feeling, and I pray to the boxing gods that it wont come true.

Agreed Arum will put loma in with anyone...but bob has been known to hold a grudge. If he's piased off at Mikey there's plenty of other big fights for him to make with Loma. But...I really like that fight!

Well if he's pissed of at Mikey, then there's no better revenge than to try and "kill" his carrer. I think Arum will be on board. He wont make a lot of dough with Loma, unless Loma gets those huge wins over popular boxers with the right demographics.

Never thought of it like that. I personally can't pick who would win breaking their styles down. I'd love to see it

Loma speaks the truth, and the truth hurts, deep down Mikey already knows all of this which is why he projected his insecurities onto Loma a few weeks ago.

Loma finished stronger than Mikey in a losing effort, and finished Rocky way stronger than Mikey, and didn't go down in the process.

Same here, but I slightly favour Loma, I dont have a favourite. I like both. If one of them tries to stall this fight and find excuses to delay it, I'll root against him.

I find it hard to breakdown as I've only watched lomas last 3 fights. I don't know enough about his chin. Mikey has real power, great at cutting off the ring and awesome timing. If Loma won...I wouldn't doubt him in any 135 fight and most 140 fights.
