I have heard a lot of rumours that their is bad blood between these two fighters because Morales beat Mayweather up in a hard spar when both were at a similar weight. A lot of people will remember seeing Mayweather cheering at Pacquiao beating Morales from ringside. Last night Morales and Barrera were at a meet and greet show in South Shields, England. After having a brief talk about their careers and fights the microphone was passed around audience members who wanted to ask questions. I decided to ask Morales about this rumour and (through his wife as a translator) his response was that back when he (Morales) was 122lbs champion and Mayweather was 130lbs champion both were training up at Big Bear. Morales would do some training with Mayweather Sr and Mayweather Jr would train with him at different times. He said he still saw Mayweather Jr around and found him to be arrogant. After being matched up to spar he claims he more or less put Mayweather in his place. I am not claiming Morales would have beat Mayweather just shedding light on this rumour and Morales's side of it because before now I have just heard/read stuff other people who were there have said not either of the actual fighters.
Sparring stories can be fun and interesting, but in the end, it is sparring. This wouldn't completely surprise me to be true. Both under TR banner at the time.
I remember this was a talked about a lot years ago. Shows how untouchable Mayweather was that someone beating him even in sparring was a story. I do like hearing gym/sparring stories especially from credible eye-witnesses, although obviously they have to be taken with a pinch of salt. Cool that you got to meet such a legend in Morales and nice of him to bring his son.
Feints are the nightmare of counterpunchers and Morales was a master feinter, Mayweather ability to adapt probably help him, but i don't doubt that Morales gave him hell.
May be only sparring, but I would rather hear about this stuff than read PPV figure estimates and A-side/B-side, business/politics type discussion. We can't read much into any of it or assume sparring results would be the same if it was an actual fight but its still interesting in a light, gossipy way. The Spence Jr/Broner story was another one as well as Spence' supposed success against Floyd himself in the lead up to May/Pac.
A prime Erik Morales is on an entirely different level to anything Mayweather has ever seen in the ring. Though it was sparring that version of Morales that Floyd shared the ring with is levels above anything Floyd has seen in a boxing ring.
Morales beat the hell out of mayweather in the gym so much so mayweather never turned up on the second day with his tails between his legs. Mayweather was extra happy when Pac was knocking morales up because he held some remorse
From what I understood, there is no bad blood between these boxing gods, it was just a friendly rivalry. Just that Mayweather claimed he had a style that made him untouchable and unbeatable, and Morales responded something like "Is that so? Show me." And the smaller, slower Morales proceeded to feint the hell outta a prodigious slick, counterpuncher like Mayweather.
I'm assuming english isn't your 1st language because I don't believe this is what you meant? Also, what was the source for Mayweather cancelling further session after getting worked?
That's like saying that Morales would beat the hell out of Mayweather just because Cotto, Castillo, Maidana, Chavez and Augustus gave him tough fights.
