Mayweather was never a real big draw he always needed ppv star or a mexican fighter

No, Floyd was just in the right place at the right time. If you put Oscar or Tyson in this social media age (utube also) along with having no true PPV competition, my goodness, they would have done double to triple what Floyd did.
Its funny though, Floyd's best fights vs actual live opponents weren't even on PPV!! Why is that? Well, because there was no room for Floyd, with Oscar, Jones, Evander, Lewis, trinidad, Vargas, Morales, Barrera, there were exciting PPVs almost every month in boxing. It wasn't until all those guys washed up and retired, that floyd's market value started to rise. Boxing fans simply got bored, nobody left to watch, oh there's a floyd fight coming up, I haven't purchased a PPV in over a year, better. lol And Floyd was never a true PPV king. I'd venture to say 80% of people buying the fights were tuning in just hoping to see Floyds opponent KO him, and the better the chance of that happening, the more PPVs that were sold. Had Floyd actually lost, like he should have to Castillo, nobody would have paid attention to him. I mean, he's easily the most boring "celebrity" boxer there's ever been. His style isn't even PPV worthy. But people loathed him, and wanted to see someone beat him, since there was nothing else to watch anymore.
But just think, Tyson and Oscar did their numbers just by word of mouth. You couldn't come online and watch their twitter accounts, or read about every single little piece of gossip, or go to utube and watch all their past fights. The Most those guys had, was the newspaper articles in the sports section after they would fight and a few boxing forums that most of the world didn't even know existed at the time. If they were lucky, ESPN would should a replay of the fight 2 months later at 3am in the morning. lol Oscar did have HBO atleast, boxing after Dark or World Championship Boxing as he came up to show some of his fights.

 

People paid for the PPV because of the possibility of a Floyd fight next? Doesn't make a lot of sense. Stupid reason to buy PPV.

 

I never saw a lot of excited people in the crowd or after watching his PPVs. Don't know why people paid.

 

Also, Floyd is American. If Pac, GGG, Kovalev, etc, were American, they would have blown Floyd away.

 

I never liked Floyd at all, but you have to give him credit. Before the Oscar fight he couldn't draw flies to poop, but he somehow used that fight and the attention he received to make himself a huge ppv star and he made the most of it. Guys with his style are usually box-office poison but he somehow made his fights must-see events even though they pretty much all turned out to be like watching grass grow. The guy made his money and that is what he is all about. Personally, I am glad he is gone but his legacy lives on in Oscar, who is trying to copy every move and trick that Floyd used to sell himself

 

you mention the social media age but that favors everybody else like Pac, Canelo and Cotto and still Floyd was selling more than them

Only 500k watched him fight Berto so where did the other 400k come from?

 

Naw Floyd did a great job of marketing himself when he fought DLH and turned himself into the face of boxing after beating him.

of all time.
You have to do something very good , when you are unbeaten in 49 Fights.

 

He fought Berto after the Pac fight which a great deal of people felt cheated. He still drew a half million viewers. I like Floyd as a fighter and I didn't buy that one but a lot of people did and that goes to show that he was indeed a big draw on his own.

 

Manny didn't really become a household name til he was mentioned next to Floyd. he hasn't sold **** since he fought Floyd
