Let's be honest here. MAIDANA was never any better than a one eyed Margarito, and i mean that literally. The Tony that fought Cotto the second go round was hungry but was gonna always have limitations, much like when Maidana wanted to quit early on against Ortiz from that body shot. Tonys inside game was much more precise as well as more physically demanding with him being a bigger man.

I hate these bull**** revisionists theories..

FLOYD ALWAYS AVOIDED ANY HAlf DECENT AGGRESSIVE FIGHTERS AFTER CASTILLO. He knew his poison and chose wisely to avoid it.

Mayweather avoided any decent fighter in their prime after Castillo except for Ricky Hatton.

lol The Margarito that fought Cotto probably had loaded wraps. The Margarito that didn't have loaded wraps fought Mosley and GKTFO!

Margarito was definitely better than Maidana.

He would probably choose a politically correct answer...but it would be cool to have
Robert Garcia's opinion on this one...First thought is prime Margarito...but the Maidana who was trained by Garcia was alot better than the fighter who got by Victor Ortiz...This would be a good fight.

I think Maidana has more power than Mosley. I see Madaina possibly losing if he broke his hands on Margaritas head. He would've had a 70% hit percentage. Maidana by KO. Without his wraps, Margarita was a wrap.

He had Joe Cortez against Hatton, Joe made sure Ricky had no chance to fight Floyd made a mistake against Maidana. He didn't realise Tony Weekes was an honest ref But his homeboy judges made sure he got the decision. Hence they hired Kenny Bayless, Cortez protégé, for the rematch

This BS about Margarito & wraps never ends. NOTHING was ever proven that he ever had or tried to have loaded wraps. A good excuse for Cotto getting his ass whupped and Mayweather and Oscar for blatantly ducking him
Margarito & Meidana would have been a FIght !! Tony would wear him down & stop him in 7

He didn't have loaded wraps in Cotto II either plus he had only one good eye from Cotto lacing him in round 2. Pinky STILL couldnt LEGITIMATELY beat him
The crooked doc stopped that fight to save cotto quitting AGAIN !!!!
Mosely was juiced to the gills AGAIN!!!!

Nah...sorry but I'd go for Maidana. Tony was never the same after the wraps incident which leaves a big asterisk next to his career whereas Maidana was a warrior. I don't think Tony would handle the heat Maidana would bring.

I've never pondered this match before but agree with the OP. Margarito would have more than likely stopped Maidana.

My take on Magarito hand wraps
-Pictures of wraps from Cotto fight 1
    -Cottos face after fight 1
-Respected trainer Nazim finding something suspicious
-Him getting fined and suspended (guilty)
-Him never looking the same in future fights

Seems to me he had loaded wraps

Great, great fight. Both at their peak, meaning marg from clotted to cotto v chino from broner till fmj 2 could be a pickem but I'd see chino landing too many clean chin and head shots for Marg to last all 12.

    Chino tko 9 to 11
