I don't recall this part and, coincidentally, I just watched the fight this weekend. Maidana was always more dangerous when hurt. It's one of my favorites.
Perhaps one of the dumbest things ever typed out on ESB. Your boy got battered in that fight when he was forced to take on Cotto without cheating by using loaded wraps as he did in their first bout and God knows how many other fights before he got caught, quite literally, red handed...
Margarito gets his ass beat. Maidana was troubled by guys faster than him, not slow ass plodders like Margarito.

I see later career Maidana doing a very good job at holding Margo off... You can't plod into a Maidana overhand right and take it... Wraps Margarito wins... Non wraps Margarito has a tough time... The hardest aspect of this fight for Maidana is Margarito loves to go to the body.
Considering the poor mans Margarito (Jesus Soto Karass) gave Maidana absolute hell, H2H Margarito would seemingly be the logical winner of a fight between the two.
As for thread title, I doubt that would happen. Maidana is a proven warrior, battle tested, tough-guy. Also a man of integrity who through hard work & dedication made it to the top and retired rich with a fine legacy untainted by scandal or misdeed. Margarito on the other hand is another pampered mexican who got elevated to a position his talent nor character could ever have taken him but for the in-built fan base=money talks. A lazy, hyped up plodder is bad enough but palatable, however the sinister, bordering on the criminal actions of this greedy, unscrupulous person and his team leave a scar on this noble sport. Maidana batters margo. Maidana is much more skilled than that plodder. He had a decent jab head movement could counter and was awkward.
Maidana pre-Robert Garcia, Margarito edges Maidana, probably. But Garcia trained Maidana puts a whoopin on Margarito. Maidana was tenfold the better fighter under Garcia. Margarito was tough as nails, but he was a decent jr middleweight who fought best at welterweight. Nothing he did was ever impressive, he was just really tough. He never even learned to cut off the ring, even Maidana did that.
Maidana ain't quitting. Prime Marg beats him though. You see Marg losing to Khan? **** no. I like Maidana, he's a warrior, but Marg would take all his shots and beat him up.
