Bob Foster vs Andre Ward

Fable may be harsh, I don't doubt Ward is unbeaten since he was a young amateur (at least officially, since Kovalev beat him clearly) I just thought you were joking because last time I heard that he was a little older, 12/13?

Anyway, your initial post implies he would win due to his mentality = win at all costs. Even if I disagree on who wins this hypothetical fight I can agree Ward shows a will to win & a winners attitude seldom matched.

 

Foster in his prime at 175? Ward would be knocked out in a 15 rounder. Foster actually shook Joe Frazier with a hook before Frazier got him. Foster could go with any 175 lb fighter in history

 

Tbh I don't really see what Foster did at 175 to suggest he was better than Kovalev. I had Ward beating him by a point too. Regardless of how a person scored that fight, I think anyone without agenda can agree that Ward regrouped after the knockdown and won most of the remaining rounds. That throws a big question mark out there about Foster being able to win on power; he might land something big but it might not be enough. The rematch will help give a clearer picture of Ward's potential at 175.

 

I actually think its is only with a bias or "agenda" for Ward that the fight can be scored for him even with his heroics in mounting a comeback of sorts. We are stuck on a disagreement then as both believe the other shows bias or has an agenda.

Your arguments for Wards case versus B. Foster & how the latter stacks up against Kovalev on pedigree I can't really offer an educated counter on, although I will mention Ward would be giving up about 7/8 inches in reach as an example of the size disparity.

 

I'm not saying a person is biased if they scored the fight for Kovalev. I'm saying Ward pretty clearly got the better of him over the last 2/3rds of the fight after being way down on the cards. I was actually watching that at Jack Dempsey's in Manhattan and plenty of people there thought he won.

Dawson had a pretty big reach advantage too and it didn't seem to help him much--a couple inches less than Foster. I also think Kovalev is noticeably stronger than Foster was and better at taking punches for what it's worth.

 

These people were probably drunk. Even sober, crowds will favour a fighter from there country. Believe me, I had to contend with a pro-Hatton crowd after he got "cheated" by Floyd & his ref.

 

I think Foster would probably take Ward apart, stop him somewhere around 8 or 9 rounds.

 

There's not many 175's in history that are beating Foster, he's a beast.

What are you basing this on? The size is with Foster, clearly. Andre was only 176 for Dawson, wasn't he? When have you seen him perform better? I don't think his water weight exceeded 190, even at his heaviest. Any additional weight would not increase his chances anyway.

To put things in perspective, someone like Roy Jones, to me, a legitimate light heavyweight, was tipping in at the low 180's before he even won his first title at middleweight. And Foster, I estimate, should be 5 pounds heavier than that, at the very least.

Ward isnt that great at 175, and his coach wants him to move down. Probably because he is slower at the weight and also weaker in the clinches and wrestling which ward likes to get into. I think Kovalev is a better boxer than foster but Foster was a 2 handed 1 punch KO guy while kovalev is very powerful but has more clubbing kind power. Not sure. Pretty close.

 

He fought nobodies. Took him 20 years to fight someone with a pulse.
