During the fight he twisted his ankle, and during an interview he states he went over on his "Left ankle" and it was weak, but when he went over, he is seen clearly holding his right ankle immediately after it happened. I am not for one minute suggesting Nigel bottled it, but if your right ankle is weak and you know about it, why say it was the left. 2.35 of the film. This content is protected
Confusion possibly. Don't mean to offend but Benn doesn't strike me as the smartest or most articulate bloke so properly just misspoke. After a fight I guess their heads are all over the place.
I was a huge Benn fan, I still am but that was a very sad ending to an amazing, exciting and normally explosive career. Nobody can question Benns courage, if you do then go and watch his fight with McClellan. Benn was completely finished by the Collins fights, the McClellan fight took something away from Benn, he was never the same again, he should have retired after he lost to Malinga but he took a couple of pension padders and who blames him? But the fight had completely left Benn by then.
Collins beat Eubank twice fair and square, don't misunderstand me I'm not digging Collins out, I really rated him, he was a superb boxer but I think it's fair to say Benn had seen far better days and was done by then.
I understand. I just cant resist having an occasional jab at the 'old enemy'! Collins was teak tough - a real hard nut. He was very 'rude and crude' though - no kind of stylist by any means - and this crash bang wallop unorthodox style combined with his size at 160 and his toughness made him a tough nights work for literally anyone.
Haha, I like the occasional jabs at some fighters myself. But as I said I really liked Collins when he around, he did it the hard way, started his career in the USA and earned his shots, so you can't knock Steve Collins.
When I was young I used to live in No. 229. No 228 was the national boxing stadium - so I saw Steve coming up - and I wouldve bet any amount he would never make it to the top - he was sooo crude. But I was wrong. Steve proved me wrong.
I always thought Benn knew the righting was on the wall and feigned injury..I don't like saying it but that's how it looked to me...The warrior in Benn had come to an end !
Good fighter Collins. Couldn't beat the best, but has to be respected for his sheer toughness and bottle. Eubank Benn was second tier and he fits in with them...Calzaghe would've ruined him and he knew it !
